Description for Datsun 510 1970
I'm selling my '70 Datsun 510 rally car. This 510 was built for SCCA ProRally and California Rally Series stock class rally racing back in the heyday of American amature rally racing in the 80's-90's. Roger Allison had rallied this 510, followed by Frank Paredes and Nick Craig. It was a very copetitive car in its class. This was pre-log book era, so there is no cage number or log book for this car. It has never been updated to modern rally specs, so it is closer to how it ran back in the 80's-90's than a modern rally build. Here is what is on the car:
Engine:
- Rebuilt L16
- Mild cam grind by Gude Performance
- Weber downdraft carburetor
- Electronic distributor

- Aluminum radiator
- Engine starts, idles and revs out super smooth.

I will give you a bunch of random spare parts that I got with the car. I will also include a great condition factory dash instrument cluster surround, the original carburetor and airbox assembly that it used to run with, and a new headlight bucket assembly to replace the mesh covered intake opening if you want to run all four headlights.
This car is fantastic to drive on the street. It has no mechanical issues and has been very reliable. Even though it is stripped and rather beat up, it actually does not resonate or rattle and is very comfortable to drive. It has rough exterior cosmetics (some might call it "character"), but the chassis is completely solid and the car is free of rot. The driver's rear quarter panel made contact with a tree and was never fully repaired, so you can see the extent of the damage in the photos (again, it is only cosmetic). The two areas of rust damage on the rear quarter have been treated and stopped, however the holes are still there. There are no other areas of rust damage. The paint is terrible, but it is fine for a rally car.
If you are looking for a reliable, rev-happy and neat 510 two-door sedan with some interesting rally history and tons of character, then this is the car for you! Clean title and currently registered.
