1971 Dodge Charger Superbee - all matching numbers, near survivor

Description for Dodge Charger 1971

Matching numbers 383/727 trans with broadcast sheet and fender tag. One of 5054 made. It still has most of the original parts to include intake, distributor, carb, shifter, dashpad, among others. The original Carter AFB will be provided in the trunk and will need to be rebuilt, a new Edelbrock is on the engine now. The exhaust manifolds were not kept by the previous owner, headers are on now. The car has been in storage for over 30 years and has not been restored.
The body is in great shape with no rust. The car was repainted once in the 80's in the factory color. The paint has held up well as it was clear-coated - most of which has peeled off over time. The paint is not perfect, it has some chips and scratches and a couple of spots where it is wearing thin. I did not try wet-sanding due to this. It still has the factory-applied hood decal and stripe. There are dimples in the tops of the fenders from someone working on the engine without covers. Also some dimples in the doors.
The interior still has the original dash pad with absolutely no cracks, tears, or holes drilled in it. The driver's seat back has a rip along with the rear seat bottom. The headliner is mostly good except for three small holes in the last panel about the diameter of a finger. Like the rest of the car, the interior is in near-survivor status with a pair of Jensen speakers in the package tray and a tri-set of aftermarket gauges added under the dash. It has the factory 150-mph speedometer that seems to work sporadically. The radio is not connected nor are the horns. The ignition key buzzer still works and sounds like a bee buzzing. It has the optional outside remote mirror.
The trunk and engine compartment are well preserved as they were undercoated decades ago. The trunk pan is solid and has no rust. The upper right trunk jamb has some rust along with a hole in the right rear wheel house as seen in the pictures. There had been some weld repair done on the right inner fender before it was undercoated.
The original engine has had the cam and crank replaced by the previous owner. He had used a Comp Cams 292H that seems strong and has good torque. The previous owner did a lot of day-two mods but was smart enough to keep the original parts in the trunk when I purchased the car. I have put those parts back on the engine, except for the exhaust manifolds. The radiator is missing the fan shroud. The engine runs smooth and consistently stays below 190 deg.
The frame appears to have been undercoated by the factory or soon after and has held up well. It does appear crusty in some places but is solid. The car has optional power disc brakes with a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders, springs, brake hoses, and one new rotor with the other one turned. The Firestone Supremes are at least 15 years old - DO NOT TRUST THEM. They should be replaced if driving the car.
