Seatbelts SELLER REMARKS Few will argue that the E-body isn't one of Chrysler's best-ever designs. and this 1972 Challenger is ample proof. Dressed in eyeball-burning bright red with a blacked-out hood treatment. it's all about high-profile performance. Fortunately. with a potent 440 under the hood. speed will be the least of your worries. With the same great looks that make Hemi versions worth more than a million bucks. this Challenger delivers a knockout look on a much more reasonable budget. Note how the detail line that follows the curve of the fenders aligns exactly as it moves from panel to panel. and the bright red paint shows off better-than-average gaps all around. It's two-stage urethane that was done about five years ago. but with limited use and proper care. it still looks incredible. The blackout hood treatment is a classic Mopar styling cue. along with the ducktail spoiler that was lifted from the competition-bred Challenger R/T. giving this car a symmetry that totally works. A blacked-out grille with a body-color surround is one of the better-looking designs of the era. and the few chrome bits remaining on the car have been brightly polished to stand out. And even though there were no 440s available in 1972 Challengers. this one has proper badges on the hood. perhaps just to intimidate the guy in the other lane. Looking fast was still part of the program in 1972. so high-back buckets. a console. and a cool-looking set of gauges remained on the Challenger's options sheet. Beautifully restored. the highly authentic interior shows you that you don't need wild modifications to have a great driving environment. Things like the seat covers. door panels. carpets. and dash pad are all pretty recent on this car. and the only notable upgrades are a set of analog ISSPRO gauges neatly stuffed into the original dash. but once you see what's under the hood you'll understand why they're there. Entertainment not delivered by the engine is handled by a powerful Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo with massive speakers on the rear package shelf and tucked into the door panels. A full-sized spare with jack lives in the trunk. along with a correct mat just to keep things looking right. The engine is a built 440 cubic inch V8. and until you've experienced a well-sorted big-block E-body. you haven't lived. The engine snarls and has instant throttle response thanks to an Edelbrock four-barrel carb and inhales through a bright chrome air cleaner. Proper turquoise paint. Mopar performance valve covers. and tidy workmanship make this an engine bay that's beautifully functional. but not over-done. so you won't be afraid to dip into the throttle out on the road. A big BeCool aluminum radiator keeps things under control and a set of long-tube headers augment the torque curve. It's backed by a stout TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission and an 8. 75-inch rear end. and there's a fresh dual exhaust system that sounds great. Staggered Ridler wheels with a Torque Thrust complete the '70s performance look and wear right-sized performance radials that fill the fenders perfectly. A high-impact Challenger with enough performance to keep your mother up at night. just what you've always wanted.
