Description for Fiat Abarth Zagato 1956
Ive searched for this car for over forty years, it is only for sale to buy a racer from the same collection. The car has an interesting Alaskan story. The owner also had two ferrari testarossa racers with consecutive serial numbers. Those two cars were sold as a set in the late seventies or early 80s. The Ferraris and this Abarth Zagato were road raced at Tanacross and ice raced on Big Lake Alaska, you can search for pics. Late in life, the Ferrari's became outclassed on the straights by the big block corvettes and were thankfully retired and not modified, but this little Abarth Zagato was heavily modified by the Ferrari owner to run with anything on the ice or road track.
I found the car just last week as it was about to be dismantled to use the engine in another racer. The motor was built at considerable expense, all custom internal pieces in the aluminum block buick v8 before any were commercially available. The transaxle is from a corvair with custom cut gears.
The car is a little monster on the road or track.
If you are the owner of the consecutive serial number Testarossa's, this would be an interesting addiion.
The reason i have looked so hard for the car is that when i was a boy, the Testarossa owner told me this actual car won the Mille Miglia. At the time i didnt know what "Mee Melia" meant, but since then i have looked for it as a collector.
The provenance and race history must be established by the new owner or buyer. I can only provide the story and maybe historical Alaskan race pictures.
If you are the owner of the two consecutive serial number 50's ferraris, you know the previous owner was a serious collector who did his homework, and you may be the best person to establish what this car really is.
The car is registered as an off road racer, racers are not titled in Alaska, only registered with the state.
Please make an offer, I will sell it for a reasonable price
