Well. guess again. because this tropical-looking 1968 Mustang convertible hits all the right notes with a very affordable bottom line. The good news is that at this price. you even get a V8. and it makes for a very pleasant. low-stress cruiser. The fire-breathing big block muscle that we expect today is a legend created by a select few. while a great majority of Mustang buyers were perfectly content to motor around in cars just like this one. With a bright Tahoe Turquoise paint job. it sure looks the part of first-class summertime fun. but it hasnt been over-restored. modified. or converted to some kind of tribute to something it never was in the first place. The bodywork is decent. and at this price you know its not a show car. but the overall effect is quite pleasing and itll make a great car to drive to work on nice days. Youll also be pleased to show this one off. because the chrome is good. all the badges are intact. and theres a neat accessory trunk rack out back. so you need to do exactly nothing to get it ready to cruise. The matching aqua-colored interior looks quite original and in good condition. and youll appreciate it the moment you put the top down in the sun. The two-tone seats look like they have been cared for over the past four-and-a-half decades with only some modest stretching on the drivers seat to give away the illusion. Despite being one of the most accessory-friendly cars of all time. the interior is remarkably stock. including some very nice door panels. original carpets. and a very cool -spoke steering wheel that looks like it belongs in a much more expensive car. Even the non-GT models got a pretty complete array of gauges. all of which are in original condition. The carpets show a little fading. but thats the nature of convertibles. especially brightly-colored convertibles. but it somehow adds to this cars honest look. It isnt trying too hard like a lot of other Mustangs youll see. but it does have a few pleasant surprises. including the freshly fitted trunk mat and matching spare tire cover. a matching turquoise boot. and a nice-looking white power convertible top. For years. the 289 cubic inch V8 was the Mustangs most popular choice. and with todays $4. 00/gallon gas. perhaps its time to re-visit the thrifty small block pony car. This same engine worked well in Ford performance cars as well as Shelbys. and its peppy around town with a nice grumble to the exhaust. It looks quite authentic with Ford Blue paint and still has all its original equipment. from the air cleaner to the cast iron exhaust manifolds. Experts will note that this car was originally equipped with factory A/C. and the system is boxed up and ready to install should the new owner wish to return it to stock configuration. A C4 automatic feeds a set of highway-friendly gears. and without a big block V8 up front. the ride is comfortable and braking secure. Original styled steel wheels are framed by a set of 205/70/14 Uniroyal radials that have a lot of life left in them. Top-down fun is what the Mustang is all about. and this one is within financial reach of just about anybody who has always dreamed of a vintage Mustang in the garage. Call today!
