Description for Ford Explorer 1993
Up for auction is my 1993 Jurassic Park Ford Explorer "Jungle Explorer" replica car. I spent a few years on this build and added many custom parts as seen in the 1993 film. The old beast has been making stops at all of our local conventions (and some fun websites) and been an absolute blast to drive around. Not to mention the community of Jurassic Park car replica builders has all become good friends. So, 'm selling this car for a few reasons. Part of the reason is that I'd like to eventually make another replica from scratch and start on a blank slate. The other, igger reason is that this kind of project doesn't fit into our lives at the moment. My wife suffered a bad back injury from a car accident and, hile I'm still helping her recover, he fun hobby of making movie cars has taken a back seat to family matters. I'd love to see this car go to someone who can build on the progress I've made and finish off the car, 00%. That said, et's get on to the good stuff!The dashboard has been modified to match the movie and two monitors play a custom DVD-based "tour program" to guide you along in your journey throughout the park. In the rear cargo area you'll find everything you need to get a T-rex's attention. Here's a rundown of all the parts added to the car to match the movie;
- 9" broadcast monitor in dash*
- 7" broadcast monitor in center console*
- Custom center console (hardwood)
- Custom fiberglass dashboard
- Spotlight on passenger fender
- Antennas added to side mirrors
- Track "sensor" prop on front bumper*
- Aluminum running boards, lack
- Custom painted faux wood door handles
- Mirror hang tag*
- Rear JP license plate*
- Vintage grey Pelican case w/ fixed handle, lares included*
- Park "Visitor Maps" - Jurassic Park* (2x in good condition, x to throw around) and Jurassic World (3x)
When I originally purchased the car the motor had a cylinder knock so I swapped in a motor that had about 50k miles. Many, any other repairs were done by the previous owner in 2007/2008 and I have all the paperwork from the shop that did the work. The brake pads are about a year old, he battery is less than 6 months old. I put a new starter in it last year as well, long with the BF Goodrich All Terrain tires. While the tires are accurate to the movie, hey were used when I bought them and will need replacement soon.
As for thepaint job, did it myself. The yellow and red are holding up pretty well (go Rustoleum!) but the green oxidizes pretty quickly and looses shine when this happens. I try to keep a good buff and wax on it most of the time to preserve the paint and appearance. Nearly 2 years in on thispaint joband there's some chipping and scratches here and there, ost notably on the front of the car (see pics for paint condition). The dash is fiberglass over foam and has some paint peels and wear in places. The climate control was relocated to a lower position and is still fully functional. Only the passenger side vents and defrost vents blow air. A/C and heat work. The gauge cluster indicator lights have been moved to below the dash monitor and retrofitted with LEDs to avoid bulb replacement complications (see turn signals "on" in photo). Chopping the gauge cluster in half changed some of the base resistancevalues in the cluster (it's all analog) so the gauges are all a little off of their true position. For example; the battery meter reads on the low end of "NORMAL" now when it's actually in correct range of 13v+ (see photo of voltage reading of powerinverterin center console). The pressure and temp dials are also off but the true performance is nominal.
I'm including all the parts seen in the cargo hatch, hich include three 4"x6" lights that would've been used on the top fiberglass dome. I had started making the rear dome and will include it with the sale if you want it. It's made from templates taken from the screen-used car in Orlando. The top of the Explorer isn't painted (the original plan was to cut the roof off and do the "bubble roof") and the original paint is quite rough due to being parked under a tree before I bought it. The headliner foam is out of the car but I have it and can include it with the sale. The very rare, creen accurate front and rear guards have been removed from this Explorer and won't be included in the sale. They're very hard to come by and I'll be using them on my next build. All other issues with the car are listed above in the "Conditions Description" field and are written with full disclosure on my part.
As mentioned earlier this car was featured on few notable websites last year. Check out the articles;
