Description for Ford Explorer 1991
Up for sale from SWPA Car Collection is my 1991 Ford Explorer XLT, "JP05" Jurassic Park tour vehicle replica. I bought this from a small dealership in Boalsburg PA, just outside of State College. It currently has 78,100 miles on it. The Carfax states the miles as correct, and the title says 'exempt' which is due to its age. This Explorer spent the majority of its life as a municipal vehicle, and then was owned by a guy in State College who had it painted with the Jurassic Park theme. It needed some TLC when I bought it, and went through a full interior and exterior refresh in the winter of 2018.- 4.0L Cologne V6 - 155hp
- 4 speed automatic with overdrive (O/D currently not working)
- Red, green, and yellow Plastidip paint job with correct decals from the JP Motorpool
- Newer items include: Radiator, clutch fan, 93 Explorer air intake tube and throttle body w/gasket, Michelin tires, front upper and lower ball joints, alternator, evap canister, front window motors, Flowmaster FX muffler and tailpipe
- Sony Am/FM/CD/Aux/SiriusXM ready radio installed
- A/C works compressor kicks on, blows cold air for about 10-15 mins then blows cool. Most likely needs a charge
- Fender mounted spotlight works!
- Rare and movie correct tail light covers along with movie correct license plate
- Full set of (4) period/movie correct BFGoodrich Radial All Terrain tires mounted on yellow painted wheels. These tires are identical to the ones used in the movie, are old, and recommended for show only
- Full size BFGoodrich spare tire
- Power windows, power locks
- In-channel window vent visors.
- Cruise control
- 3 sets of keys
- Jurassic Park soundtrack on cassette included, along with 3 miners style hardhats and a full brim hat as props, and a dash plaque it was featured on at this year's Butler Airport Mega Cruise.
As far as the refresh goes, I bought a rust free 1993 Ford Explorer with 60k miles to use for parts (it was wrecked in the front, frame horns bent, and not worth getting straightened). The entire interior from the carpet to the headliner was swapped into JP05. The rear hatch was also swapped along with the factory headlight bezels and tail lights. New fenders were hung, along with cutting off the rusted out driver side quarter panel and replacing with a new one. The entire exterior was sanded down with 150 grit, prepped, sprayed with Plastidip primer, and then sprayed with Plastidip. Looks good for a first time spray job with Plastidip, but has a few runs here and there. It was built for fun, not for perfection. The frame is solid and the only rust issues are on inside the dog legs. Structurally they are ok, just an appearance thing if you wanted to fix them. It's a 28 year old Ford and does mark its territory (leaks a little oil) but only needed a half quart added after 4k miles. Of all the cars in my collection, this one gets driven the most. I have driven it this year to the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle PA (took 1st place in my class) as well as being asked to display it at the International Thunderbird Club Convention in Cleveland OH recently. It also gets driven to many local cars shows. Hop in, set the cruise control, and it usually averages 22-24mpgs on the turnpike. If you ever wanted to know what it's like to be a celebrity, drive a Jurassic Park Explorer around. You will have plenty of folks giving you thumbs up and snapping your picture as you drive around. I also have plenty of spare parts (and all window glass) if the buyer would like them.
More pictures can be taken upon request, and the vehicle can be inspected/ looked over by any potential buyer or third party inspector. The car is located in Allison Park, PA right off the PA Turnpike exit 39. I have the car listed locally too and I have the right to remove the ad if the Explorer sells here. I am selling the 1991 Explorer AS-IS, with no warranty stated or implied. It comes with a CLEAN PA title, and currently has Antique plates. The vehicle is 28 years old, however, it operates exactly as it should and I wouldn't be afraid to drive it anywhere. I will also work with you if you need the car shipped, but the cost is on the buyer. After full payment is made, vehicle will need to be removed from my property within 10 days, or on the 11th day forward, a $25 per day storage fee will be charged. I only do this since I have had buyers pay for vehicles I've sold them, and then 5 weeks later they finally come collect their car when they 'feel' like it. I will work with the buyer, but at the same time I appreciate the vehicle being picked up in a timely manner so I do not have to charge a storage fee.
