1972 Mustang Mach 1 with correct Q Code 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet Engine less than 3,000 miles since rebuilt. Mostly original except for T-Tops mostly complete, nly needs only a few items to run
I bought it in 1983 and only drove it for 2 years. It has been garaged since 1985 partial restoration done late 80's and early 90's. Located in Perry Hall MD just 25 minutes north of Baltimore. I am the 3rd owner from 1983 to now
I bought this in September 1983 from the 2nd owner. Within a few months, put in a freshly rebuilt 1970 351 Cleveland short block with 1971 CJ heads with a FMX Transmission and drove it to school for 2 years putting less than 10,000 miles on it up until December 1985. The miles on the Virginia title from 1983 shows that it starts at 108,767 to 120,071 Miles which is on the car now. I only drove it 10 minutes to school and 10 minutes back, ever in traffic and never in the rain never in the snow...I would just stay home and miss classes whenever it rained. I always kept it perfectly clean, axed and bathed in armor all. It was too much work to have it as a daily driver so I stopped driving it in December 1985 and it has been garaged ever since then...for the past 30 years.
1986 Installed Correct 351 CJ Engine
I had also bought my friend's 1973 Torino which had a Q Code 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet engine. He just had the engine rebuilt and I saw the process all the way through. He put about 1,200 miles on it, arely breaking it in, hen I bought the Torino from him...with the idea that I would eventually put that correct Q code engine into the 1972 Mach 1 so it would have the right engine which originally came with the car...so I did that around 1986.
Partial Restoration 1986 to 1993
From 1986 to 1989 it was in my garage and I just started it up from time to time and drove it out to wash it in the driveway. From 1990 to 1993 I sandblasted and repainted as much of the under carraige, nterior and engine compartment as I could to prepare it for storage, o there was very little to no rust there to begin with, just wanted to paint it to prevent it from forming. I took out the carpet and painted the floor as you can see from some of the picts back from the 90's I took off the fenders and blasted the wells and put them back on quickly, idn't have time to line them up correctly. I even used naval jelly inside the trunk and rear quarter panels area inside to rust proof it further.
2nd Owner from 1982 to 1983
The previous owner who I bought it from only had it for about a year and she had the original Q code engine replaced with a 400m from a station wagon, o that is what was in there when I bought it.
Original Owner 1972 to 1982
The original owner was the one who had it painted black over the original 6F Glow Gold Metallic color I am guessing somewhere around 1980 and also had the Hurst Hatch T-Tops installed and the rear louvers as well. I talked to the guy who painted it and he gave me some info on the car's history. She had the rear end changed with a 3:89 odball gear, o when I first had it, t would turn 3000 RPM just to go 55 MPH. I put a 3:25 back in it from another 1972 Mach 1 I had that only had 54,000 miles on it.

- Casler Headers - Thrush Mufflers L-Pipe comes out in front of rear tires
- KYB Gas Shocks - Front Strut Rod Bushings installed on front end

Parts needed to be purchased to be completed
- Front bumper and mounts (you could go urathane or chrome) The Mach 1 was usually urathane the Boss, onvertibles and Fastbacks were usually Chrome...but not always.
- Gas Tank (I should have the float in the back seat or in the trunk)
- Battery and Battery Tray
- Distributer ? Points? I would suggest getting electronic ignition and fuel pump
- Passenger seat
- maybe front grille, here is a small section missing (check out the video)
Original Items to the car that are not included
- A/C Compressor and Evaporator have been removed
- RAM Air has been removed
- Original RAM Air air cleaner, 300 D Carb and Factory Aluminum Intake did not come with the car when I bought it (although the Q code engine I put in from the Torino had the original aluminum intake I could not find a 4300 D Carb for it, o I went with the offenhauser-Carter AFB Combination)
- Chrome Exhaust Tips and original factory H-Pipe crossover exhaust got left behind when car was moved
- Passenger Seat
