Description for Ford Mustang 1991
Up for sale is my amazing Mustang. So here's the story. I am the Automotive Technology instructor at the largest high school in South Carolina as well as an instructor at the local Technical College here in Charleston. As part of my automotive training program I often bring cars in to use as projects that I can teach my students the skills of automotice diagnosis and repair. I have always loved Mustangs, having owned and built several others, so when this one came along about 3 years ago I was extreamly excited to build it into an awesome street preformer. At that time my plan was to keep it for myself and drive it daily, so with that in mind I built it to be fast, fun, and reliable. Over the last 3 years it has been at the school receiving rebuilds to most of the systems and components and has only been driven less than 200 miles. At this point I have nearly $10,000 invested in this car (although I know that I probably won't get that back out).So here is a list of the things that were done to build this Fox Body to what it is today...Originally the car was a white 4cyl automatic car with right at 125,000 miles.
The first thing that was done was a suspension and brake system rebuild/upgrade as well as a 5 lug swap. After removing all of the old stuff we installed...-8.8 rear axle out of an 1995 Mustang GT (5 lug & disc brakes).-New Summit Racing rear tublar control arms-New 1.5" lowering springs-1995 Mustang front spindles (5 lug). -New Gabriel front v8 struts. -2001 Mustang dual piston front calipers (PBR Calipers)-Drilled and slotted front rotors-Premium brake pads all the way around.-2001 mustang master cylinder-New 1993 cobra brake booster.-Weld in frame connectors
To fit the new 5 lug hubs I picked up a set of original 1995 Cobra R wheels and had them re-powder coated to original silver metallic finish. The tires on them are in great condition and have 85% to 90% life left. The front tires are BF Goodrich "g-force sport" 245/45 ZR 17. The rear tires are Nexten 275/40 ZR 17. The original Cobra R center caps are a bit aged, fadded and cracked. I have them off of the wheels right now, but they could be put back in or if you would like they are availible new.
Next we pulleg the 2.3/AOD out and built a 351 windsor/T5 to go in its place. The parts of this build include...-1985 351 core out of a LTD Crown Vic. - the engine was completely taken apart, cleaned, and inspected. - durring the inspection we magnafluxed the block and heads (checking them for cracks {none found}),measured the crankshaft journals, measured the cylinders and inspected every component.- The block was bored and honed to accommodate new speed pro hyperutectic pistons,- The blocks head gasket surfaces were decked to true.- New camshaft bearings and freeze plugs were installed.- The heads were machined with a new multi-angle valve job to accept new stainless steel 1.940" intake and 1.600" exhaust valves.- the intake and exhaust ports were lightly ported (mostly bowl blended) in order to accommodate the larger valves. - the heads were also machined to accept screw-in rocker arm studs- finally the heads were milled .020" to clean up the head gasket surfaces.
- The engine was assembled with all new wear componets as well as a few performance upgrades. The parts include...-New speed pro pistons-New speed pro piston rings-New sealed power camshaft bearings-New speed pro flat tappet camshaft (CS1231R) pretty mild camshaft very torquey, great midrange, very streetable idle...-New speed pro lifters-Newsealed power timing chain-New sealed power main and rod bearings-New melling oil pump-New felpro gasket set-New Manley SS Valves (in 1.940" ex 1.600")-New pioneer valve springs to match camshaft specs-New pioneer rocker arm studs-Edelbrock performer intake-Holley Street advenger carburator-Ford Racing polished Cast Alum Valve covers-Ebay stainless headers-Proform Ford Racing Air cleaner-MSD 6A ignition box-MSD blaster SS coil-New Duralast water pump-New Carter fuel pump-New Ford Racing Billit steel 28 oz flywheel-New Ford Racing Clutch-New Autolight spark plugs and Ford Racing plug wires-New convertable motor mounts-New aluminum radiator-Ford Contour V6 electric 2 speed fan-New Duralast gold battery-New AC Delco 3G alternatorA V8 World Class Borg Warner T5 was fully rebuilt with-New Timken bearings-New synchronizers-New gaskets and seals-New Late Model Restorations short throw shifter-New billit clutch quadrant and adjustable cluth cable-New transmission mountThe engine was installed and broken in properly. It cranks easily, runs strong, dosent smoke, has excellent oil pressure, and makes no abnormal noises. It's a great drive train, fast but streetable!
The exhaust that I built for it has dual 2.25" pipes with a h pipe and dual 2 chamber Flowmasters. After the Flowmasters, the exhaust just turns down (dumps) in front of the rear axle. It sound awesome!!!!!! Very deep and bassy, it has that beautiful "Flowmaster" sound. I do have a set of factory LX V8 Stainless tailpipes that could be made to work if you would prefer, I would be happy to give them to you if you like.
Next came the interior. We pulled the interior out, installed Peel n Seel insulation, and cleaned the carpet. Then we installed a set of 2000 Mustang convertable black leather seats. The seats are in good shape and are very comfortable. The driver side is power adjustable and has lumbar support. The rear seats are original to the car, but I have a set of perfect black leather 2000 Mustang convertable rear seat that I will include with the car. I have seen people who have pulled seat covers off of that generation mustang and installed them on a fox body seat frame. We removed the factory gauges and installed a set of new Equuis gauges that include a speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure gauge, water temp gauge, voltage gauge, and fuel level gauge (with matching gas tank sending unit). To mount the gauges I fabericated a plate to go in the factory dash that includes LEDs for the turn signials and hi-beam lights. As of right now, the odometer only reads 159.9 miles. Overall the interior is clean especiall for a 1991 car. The radio was replaced with a Sony Explode CD player with USB, AUX, Bluetooth, etc. The door speakers are Pioneer 6.5 speakers". The rear piller speakers are Kenwood 6.5" speakers. Under the back hatch is a single 12" kennwood subwofer and a 500w Kenwood amplifer. The soundsystem is decent but honestly you'll want to listen to the engine more than the radio. You will love it!!!
Last up was the exterior. We first installed a genuine Cervinis Stalker front bumper and hood. We took all of the window trim, mirrors, head lights, tail lights, quarter windows and sunroof out in order to properly paint the car. Body work was performed and the car was painted with a dark silver single stage metallic paint. It looks REALLY GOOD!!!!!!!!! Just to be completely honest, its not show car level but very nice street car quality (remember the body work was done by students so there are a few imperfections here and there, but not too bad). The paint was sprayed in March of this year. I would call the paint job an 8 out of 10 which was exactly what I wanted when building this street car. After the paint was done new clear 6 piece headlights were installed, a new windshield was installed, and new tail light lenses were installed.
Thats about it. I am sure that I am leaving a few things out but hopefull you can see that when this car was built it was built right. The goal was to be quick, fun, good looking, and reliable. This Mustang is an absolute blast to drive and gets a ton of attention everywhere I go. If your into Fox Body Mustang's then you will love this car. If you add up all of the parts that are listed in this summary you will see that there is a lot invested in this car.
Please feel free to ask as many questions as you would like or if your close to Charleston, SC your welcome to come and check it out in person. I would be happy to send you some videos of it running if that would help too.
Thank You!
