Description for Ford Model A 1980

Ford Model A

(Shay replica, 1980)

It really IS a Model A, the title says so....listed as Ford Model A, 1980.

A wonderful car, has covered only 8,300 miles since new....last year I purchased it from the daughter of the deceased owner. She told me he never left our little town, just around the neighborhood, always garaged, carefully babied as his little prize.

A remarkable accurate replica of the original 1929 Model A, built on a new Pinto chassis (unlike 'kit cars' that often rely on old, tired parts, this car was built by Shay in conjunction with the Ford Motor Company, hence the name on the title and the authentic Ford insignia throughout) with vented disc brakes, 2.3 liter OHC engine, all synchromesh 4 speed transmission, etc.

Nice details are the easy folding top, never used side curtains, 18" wire wheels with 'period' white wall tires, oooga horn, heater, rumble seat, and cavernous trunk.

When I got the car, was running like new but, as a precaution, I had one of my race mechanics replace the water pump, all ignition parts, thoroughly check suspension, brakes, electricals, etc. Installed a new stereo/CD, a 12v outlet with USB outlets, and an early Sprite steering wheel (I hated the horrible Pinto wheel) for more of a classic look.

Car has eat belts, electronic ignition, starts instantly, runs flawlessly, have seen 70 mph on the highway, and is effortless to drive around town. What I love is the incredibly solid 'feel' of the car....yes, you can stand on the running boards, doors close nicely, no rattles, or shakes. And if you stand a few week away, and if you are not a dyed in wool Model A enthusiast, in my eye, looks exactly like a real Model A.

Generally speaking, am not a fan of most replicas but, over the years, have owned Porsche Speedster replicas, Cobra replicas, and even Lotus 7 replicas, all of which approximated the originals. While MG TD replicas are awful with VW engines ticking in the back. But I didn't want to have the burden of owning, driving, and maintaining a genuine Model A and this car has been a wonderful experience. Alas, the acquisition of a 1953 Morgan forces me to sell this car.

I can be reached at my office at 203-377-6746 9-5 weekdays Eastern time and would be glad to do my best to answer any questions. I can also help the winning bidder with shipping. Thanks for looking and good luck!

Edit: Typos, "eat belts" should be "seat* belts," "a few week away" should be "a few feet* away".
