Description for Ford Galaxie 500XL, 1964
All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. I can assist with financing and transport as needed. This 1964 Galaxie 500XL is more than the sum of its parts. It is one of those cars that just seems to have a soul, with a personality and presence that cannot be denied. Is it the great California body? The oh-so-right patina? The 428 cubic inch engine, 4-speed Toploader, or 4.11 gears? Who knows. But something is going on here. This Galaxie is a... 3-owner car that was built in Los Angeles and spent its entire life in California. This is as solid a car as you'll find; look at the underside pictures and you'll see the frame, floor pans, and body mounts are all in amazing condition. Make no mistake, this is not a fully restored show car. It is a remarkably clean survivor with a look that many people try hard to duplicate. This example is an original Wimbledon White car that has seen some paint work but is mostly original. A Thunderbolt fiberglass hood has been fitted (the original is included) along with black 15" steel wheels wearing BF Goodrich tires (245's in front and big 295's in back). The last owner decided the original 352ci big-block was not getting the job done, so it was replaced with a much more capable 428. The block received an overbore along with 9.5:1 pistons for good street performance and a Howards solid lifter cam. Up top is a Holley Street Dominator aluminum intake manifold with a 750 cfm 4-barrel carburetor. There is also an MSD ignition, electric fuel pump, and a big Canton Racing oil pan. There is an aluminum radiator with electric fan to keep things cool. And check out the rare Ford cast iron headers!Along with the engine swap, the original automatic transmission was replaced with a 4-speed Toploader along with a Hurst shifter and matching console plate. A Centerforce clutch and aluminum flywheel were also installed. And to really make things fun, it has a limited slip 9" rear end with 4.11 gears for great acceleration (though I can back this down if you like). The two-tone turquoise interior is almost completely original and is a true throwback with a very spacious rear seat. As a 500XL this Galaxie had the nicer interior with bucket seats and center console along with polished door panel inserts. The seats are in good condition front and back. The headliner does not have any rips though some of the original stitching is coming apart. Everything works including the radio, heater, backup lights, wipers, and horn. The speedometer is properly calibrated, and an aftermarket tachometer and oil pressure gauge are present. There is just something about this Galaxie. It doesn't have the nicest paint. It isn't the fastest on the street. It takes a while to get around corners and doesn't have many creature comforts. But it has that x-factor that doesn't translate well on paper. If you really want to have fun with an old car then you may have found your ride.
