The Runabout is a wonderful survivor in every sense of the word that has been extremely well respected over the past 96 years spending much of that time being kept in storage .The car has a very unusual body style it's coach work is pure Australian in design and was hand built in Australia by Queensland Motors Limited. of Brisbane ."QML".This sporty 1919 QML Runabout is quite unique in that there is no other like it (known) in the United States and it is the best original condition example of maybe 3 remaining world wide .This car presents a once in a life time opportunity to acquire a extremely rare and beautiful Luxury sport Roadster that is both an important part of Ford Motor Company history and is a truly amazing part of Australian automotive history. Henry Fords import partner Australian motorcar Import Company Queensland Motors Limited. designed built and fitted uniquely Australian bodies as well as made performance up grades to Henry's export chassis. These beautiful and sporty QML roadsters were the pride of the Australian industry in 1919 and with new electric lights fancy two tone roadster top instrument cluster side mounts and flashy paint job if you were the who's who of Australian society this Runabout was the must have loaded luxury sports car of its time. Truly the very best cars to own show and enjoy are those with a captivating life story and well known rich history. The 1919 Brisbane Runabout has had an amazing 96 year run ! Its original Australian owner was a sweet little old lady retired school teacher from Gympie who loved and babied her Runabout and gave it the name "Swanhilde". (true story) The car was purchased directly from her in 1962 by an American Film production company shooting on location in Queensland at the time. The new owner pulled a permit and used the runabout for transportation during his stay in Australia that permit is still where he posted it on the windshield to this day!. He had his newly acquired Runabout hand crated and exported to the USA ( again across the globe by ship ) and then VIA rail to Detroit where it has been well stored until its recent discovery. The car is a virtual time capsule of early Australian automotive history. The red paint is believed original from 1919 as is the light gray roadster top complete with red piping. The wheels are in great condition and still have their original made in Australia Olympic" tyres " mounted. The Runabout has great patina and is well documented . The pictures of the motor with the head removed were taken during inspectionthe motor turns freely and is in very good conditionit is fitted with a unique chain driven magneto set up the paint on the motorunder vintage grime is in great condition for its age. There is no rust to speak of ( just minimal and light surface) and the original body timbers are in amazing condition (always kept dry) with no rot. The highest bidder will get the stock of original QML parts that were crated up with the runabout before it left Au.in 1962 this includes the runabouts correct and original early style wind shield frame and red cowl timber that somehow managed to be kept with the vehicle for 96 years .The windshield currently on the car is a later Au. made QML frame.( please see last two pictures) also included are two very nice QML rear fenders one front fender spare motor partsrare QML motoring accessories and more .The runabout has not been touched since its arrival in the U.S and today( with the exception of inspecting and tinkering with the motor) is exactly the way it was when it left Australia in 62'. This Runabout is a real piece of history and deserves to be in a museum as an Australian heritage piece with a rich history. Queensland Motors Agency. began its transition into Queensland Motors Limited. in late 1919 and only remained in operation until 1925. This 1919 Brisbane Runabout is one of the earliest known Queensland Motors Limited. cars ever produced . Henry Ford halted his chassis sales and started importing complete RHD Canadian bodied cars into Australia by 1925 this all but put an end to the Australian industry .Very little has been documented about this amazing era of the great - Queensland Motors Ltd -Brisbane Runabout. This Runabout has everything going for it that is coveted by the astute collector car investor color roadster body style beauty condition rarity and exclusivity.
