Description for Honda Prelude 1989
-Same owner for over 25 years--Garage kept--66. 29 original miles-I've spent the better part of the last 2 decades building up my car collection. At 47 years old and a 1980's high school grad. my passion is primarily focused on the cars I loved as a kid. The late 60's and early 70's GM cars have always had a piece of me but recently I also started acquiring cars that myself or close friends of mine owned during my late teens and early 20's. Sort of re-living my youth so to speak. A Toyota Supra. VW GTi. Scirocco. and this Prelude are just a few I've purchased over the years. I only buy superb examples. During these quests to locate cars from this era I've learned that it's easier to find a pristine 1970 Chevelle than it is to find a nice car from the 1980's or early 90's. They were popular with younger drivers who generally abused the crap out of them. I have turned over countless rocks looking for the fun cars of this generation. My Prelude is one of the best discoveries so far. I found it locally just 40 miles North of Portland in Longview Washington. I actually purchased the car from the very same Honda dealership that sold it new! Yes. that dealership is still in operation. Rose Binion (also the same first name of the dealership) purchased the car in November of 1989 for just under $18. 00. Her trade in?- A 1979 Honda Prelude. I have records from that day of purchase and the factory window sticker all beautifully preserved. Serviced at that same Honda dealer since new. Same owner for 25 years. At 66. 00 actual miles the car is in outstanding condition. Garaged every day of it's life and it shows. The paint and interior condition are nothing short of amazing. Even the soft rubber black exterior trim and moldings look near new. The velour seats appear almost un-used and the fuzz in the material still stands straight up. I wasn't fortunate enough to meet Rosalie but I assume she weighed 100 pounds based on the lack of wear on the driver seat. Mechanically. the car is exactly what you'd expect. The 2. 0 liter fuel injected dual over-head cam engine performs impressively well. The transmission shifts firmly and the S3-S4 sport modes operate correctly. I will have the car serviced and looked over again before passing the torch to the next owner. If I stopped now and didn't type another word you would still be able to form a clear impression of the car by scrolling through the first few photos. For those that prefer as many written details as possible I will make brief comments under some of the upcoming pictures. *Bottom line: The car reflects the condition of a 3 or 4 year old automobile. All of my eBay experiences have been enjoyable over the years as I've sold members of my collection. I'm grateful for the kind words and compliments I've received. My opinions have guided me well and I stand behind them but please keep in mind that these are my personal opinions and observations and they may differ from your own. I welcome showing my Honda in person to anyone with genuine interest. I live very near the Portland Oregon Airport and would gladly pick you up. Each photo shows my Prelude clearly and accurately from as many angles as I could think of. It is my intention to make this as close to you seeing and touching the it for yourself as possible. Feel free to click on the "ask a question" link here in the auction and I will respond to all polite questions. Phone calls are great too. My telephone number is 503-575-0404 and calls between 8AM and 9PM Pacific time are just fine. My auction runs for 7 days and is scheduled to end on Monday evening. the 2nd of Marchat 7:30PM Pacific. I reserve the right to end my auction early in the event I'm contacted and accept a genuine offer and the Prelude becomes no longer available. *If you are outside of the U. S. or Canada. PLEASE contact me to confirm your bidding activity as genuine. *Everyone. please be sure to read my terms of sale located near the bottom of this screen. I'm a reasonable and kindhearted person but I will not bend on these basic terms unless previously discussed during the auction. A little communication goes a long way. NO RESERVE AUCTIONI did not set a reserve price on my Honda. All that I ask in return is for your bids to be real and your intent to purchase be sincere. I took every picture you're about to see just a few days before this auction started. No photo has been altered or enhanced in any way. This is my Prelude and these pictures are true to her in-person appearance. Thanks for your time. DAVE > The Enkei alloy wheels were a dealer option and have been on the car since near new. I currently own two of these cars. both '89 models. both Si and both are white. Yes. twins and both of them have this 14" Enkei wheel. Only the 4 wheel steering models came with Honda alloy wheels in 1988 and 1989. By 1990. alloy wheels were fairly standard on all Si Preludes. Bright white is a color that can be tricky to photograph. Weather conditions were on my side this particular day and the sun stayed behind the clouds which gave me the ability to capture clear photos. My only complaint is that the gloss in the finish doesn't show very much. The paint holds a very high shine on absolutely every panel and is as smooth as a babies bottom. There are no blemishes requiring explanation. There are no dents. ugly scratches or parking lot dings. Although the car has experienced 66. 00 miles of gentle use over a 25 year period. it's condition is braggable nonetheless. All glass and exterior trim is excellent. Even the rubber moldings on both bumpers is gorgeous. No written description needed. The interior photos speak for themselves. The inside shows little to no wear. It is simply stunning. The only notable complaint and it is the only one- The ashtray lid is flawed on a lower corner. The car has never been smoked in. The ashtray was used as a change holder and catch-all for little items. My other Prelude has the same issue. Poorly designed and cheap plastic on that component. By all standards the interior is MINT. Factory original engine compartment. No modifications and always regularly serviced. I am aware of no issues. Original. actual and untampered with mileage. Body panel fit. gaps and alignment are excellent. I forgot to turn on the original driving lights. They work. of course. These factory black moldings started showing age almost immediately. Not on this car! The exterior rubber and plastic coated trim pieces do an excellent job of documenting the incredible condition of the car. There is no exception for a life spent in the garage. Unheard of condition. The low stance and wedge design of the front caused them to be prone to rock chips. This car escaped that fate almost entirely. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so I did use color matched touch-up on a few tiny chips and a small blem near the license plate. Again. very few. Both doors open and close perfectly. Please notice the shine in the paint. This photo captured the gloss I mentioned earlier. The paint is beautiful. Yes. the original power antenna works perfectly. Even the sunroof wind deflector is a genuine Honda part. All exterior lenses all excellent. All glass is crystal clear. This license plate frame has been on the car since new. Rose Freichel Honda (now Sterling Honda) is still in business today. Everything works. A/C is cold and heat is hot. Both power windows and even the cruise control operate correctly. The interior is spectacular. These bulky door panels are usually covered with nicks and marks from the seatbelts and normal use. Both are MINT. The little round gauge just above the heater and A/C controls is a Brookstone themometer. I think it's safe to say that literally the back seat has never been sat on. The original radio is on the fritz. It works sometimes if you jiggle the volume knob. Buttons and switches look as if they've hardly ever been touched. In the trunk there is a factory Prelude bra. side window rain shields and miscellaneous genuine Honda stuff. I did not clean the engine compartment in any way. This simply presents 25 years. well almost 26 now. Like I said. always dealer serviced. The battery is Genuine Honda. My explorations of the car have discovered no evidence of previous damage or accidents of any kind. The undersides are outstanding. NEVER exposed to a salted road or harsh chemical de-icers. She always parks in the same spot in my garage. No fluid drips are ever on the floor. She's almost a 1990 model being produced in September of 1989 but she is in fact an '89 and sold new on Halloween of 1989. I don't remember them being $18. 00!! I have the original purchase doc's including the deposit receipt. detailed purchase order showing trade-in. etc and the pre-delivery check list. I'm hoping that my appreciation for this car is contagious and that your impression is fully formed by now. It is simply outstanding and more than worthy of sitting next to the other members of my collection. I don't think anyone will ever find a nicer one.
