Description for International Harvester Scout 1979
Beautiful, tock and original, nmolested, reat running and driving, op-of-the-line, eavily optioned 1979 International-Harvester Scout II Rallye Edition with only two long-term owners. This Scout was purchased brand-new in 1979 by the secretary of the owner of Tri-County Equipment of Rexburg, daho. TCE sold everything IH back in the day. And since it was Southern Idaho, hat included everything from farm equipment to big rigs to pickup trucks and Scouts. She owned and used it sparingly until she sold it to the grandson of her TCE boss in 2002. He'd wanted it for years and kept close tabs on it all along. He has been the owner until now and also used it sparingly (typically Sunday drives). He is convinced it only has 34,276 original miles but I suspect it's gone around once.Mechanically it's in excellent, riginal condition. Running gear consists of a 345cid V8, 27 TorqueFlite automatic transmission, ana 20 transfer case, nd Dana 44 axles front and rear. This combo, ombined with its front disk brakes, ower steering, nd power brakes, epresents the Holy Grail of Scout II running gear. Plus it starts right up, dles, ccelerates, hifts, teers, urns, nd brakes just as it should. The only issue I can find is a leak around the oil pan gasket. This running gear behaves as if it only has 34,276 miles. Tires and battery are almost new.
Inside is in very good original condition with the deluxe black interior. Most everything works except the temperature gauge, ighter, nd clock. The air conditioner blows properly but at some point the compressor was removed (standard GM unit; all attachment points remain). The dash has no cutting or butchery of any kind. All the buttons and knobs are still there too. Even the original 8 track tape player works properly. Doors open and close solidly but passenger window does not roll down and inside lock button on driver side is inop. The front seats were recently reupholstered but the fold down rear seats still have the original upholstery. Carpet is original and showing wear. And it has a tilt wheel and original keys with IH logo.
The exterior has not been messed with and still has the original paint and Rallye Edition stripes. Plus it still has those cool, ard-to-find IH chrome rims (the spare too). It has never been in an accident although it has some dings by the right taillight. Typical minor Scout rust is confined to the rockers, loorboards (just a little) and rear fenders with some tiny holes on the passenger side front fender. It's easy to fix stuff (or just enjoy it as-is in its beautifully patina'd condition).
This is an awesome Scout II Rallye Edition. It's all stock, riginal, op-of-the-line, nd has a wonderful long-term ownership history. I hope it goes to someone who understands and prizes originality. It's a fun, driveableinvestment that should be kept in it's original, eautifully patina'd condition or restored as opposed to being modified. It's way to precious for that. Just my two cents.
