Description for International Harvester Scout 1967

For sale: 67 International Harvester Scout 800 4x4 original high desert survivor. Sold new and lived in Central Montana. land of the sagebrush and prickly pear cactus. Original elderly owner used this truck to putt around his ranch and pulled it behind his camper for hunting trips. When he passed away. this went into long term storage in his ranch barn till recently. when it was purchased at the estate sale. This rig is startlingly original for a nearly 50 year old rig. Still wearing it's original hoses with original clamps. original exhaust with IH muffler. and running the original IH keys. Still has original jack and handle! Comes with docs and brochures and the vintage 1967 Montana plates shown. Only minor rust as shown in pics. I've seen many of these trucks. and this is the driest truck I've run across during 35 years in the hobby. I'll do my best to describe this special Scout below. Exterior: Honest truck with faded ORIGINAL paint with just the right patina. Nothing hidden or covered up. what you see is what you get. Straight overall with the usual dings and scratches from years of use. I think the faded spot on passenger front fender was touched up at one time. Only minor rust in floors and small pinholes in front of rear wheels where mud packs in between gas tanks and fender. Heavy scale under driver floor mat. Never seen salt. and we only get 10 inches of total moisture per year in this area. We just don't see major rot in this arid country. There is a crease in passenger rear fender as shown. and a dent in the passenger door. Exterior chrome trim and badges in good condition with no pitting. Glass is good except windshield. which has a crack and needs to be replaced. All glass including windshield appears to be the original Guardian glass. Roof in good condition. Weatherstrips are dried out. and windows are sticky when rolled up/down and will need disassembly/lube. Just a solid original vintage 4x4. Interior: Original and showing typical wear. Just about everything works except fuel gauge. All other gauges work. All lights and blinkers work. heater fan. windshield wipers. even map light works! Seat upholstery is pretty baked/cracked under the blanket covers but seats are not broken down or worn out. Original floor mats are intact. Minor pitting on interior door handles and window cranks. Original owner drilled a couple of holes for gun racks. Typical of a barn find. I removed a mouse nest under rear seat and sprayed the area with Vanisol. Overall ready to use as is till you restore. Mechanical: Starts. runs. drives and stops and can use as is with a set of new tires. Shows 85k miles but I suspect much of that was while towed behind camper as it retains much of the original equipment like hoses. shocks. alternator. nbsp;muffler. etc. After the original owner died. the truck was stored for several years and I had it gone over by professional mechanic. Complete inspection and full service was performed along with carb rebuild. Original "Commanche" 4 cylinder runs great with no major smoke or leaks and has good oil pressure - does have the typical IH faint piston/wrist pin noise when cold that quiets down when fully warm. 3 speed transmission shifts great and 4x4 works fine. Brakes were bled but not rebuilt. parking brake works. Fuel pump diaphragm was seeping at first but seems to have stopped. Replacement pumps are readily available. Tires are old and dry rotted and need to be replaced. Truck is tight with few squeaks or rattles. Main (driver side) gas tank was drained and flushed and running off that tank. Haven't tried passenger side tank. and it's disconnected for now. Be prepared for a lot of thumbs up while you drive and restore it. Pricing/Misc: I got a good deal on this rig and you will too. The early Scouts are one of toughest trucks to find. nbsp;especially low mile. nbsp;clean. nbsp;original. straight and mostly rust free examples. With early Bronco and Blazer prices hitting the stratosphere. these late 60's Scouts won't be far behind. Reserve is under $5k for quick sale on this truck. The value here is the money you don't have to spend because you're buying a solid truck to start your restoration with. Transport is readily available and probably cheaper than fixing rust on a Midwest or East Coast truck. Title is clear and in my name. After the sale. I can store the truck outside for up to 30 days free. after that $100 per month storage will be due. Keep in mind that with all cars and trucks. nbsp;THEY LOOK BETTER IN PICTURES THAN IN PERSON. This is not a minty creampuff. just a solid truck to begin a restoration on and IT IS NOT PERFECT.
