Description for Jaguar XJ6 1973
1973 Jaguar XJ6 Series 1 60. 21 miles This Jag is a California car that made it’s way to Texas. The result of this is a very rust free example. The car has some surface spots here and there where the second paint job has started to chip. but nothing major. The chrome is brilliant and original. To think no one in this car’s life has picked anything off to put on another car is fantastic. Although the car shows it’s scoresheetage in some parts. it’s a great example of a 41-year-old car. You can sit in the car and experience what the car should look like for this age. In other words. it’s not a restored car. This car is. as it should be. preserved. One of my favorite pastimes is to pull up a chair in the garage and just stare at the car. It is to me one of the best-looking cars ever made and certainly the best XJ6. After the series 1. the XJ6 never looked right. These Series 1 XJ6s. in this original form are disappearing from the public eye and the value is on the up! OutsideAll original except the paint. The original color appears to be Navy Blue. although tough to tell in certain light and you can only see it where the re-spray is flaking off. My original intention with this car was to remove the newer white paint and leave the original paint on the car. This is a difficult and time-consuming process. but the end result is a very original car. The paint chips as shown in the picture are here and there. The bulk of the chips are. as to be expected. on the hood and nose of the car. There are some small dents on the hood of the car. and on the driver’s door. There are very small amounts of surface rust spots here and there. Nowhere is the car rusted through. purely cosmetic spots and easily repairable. The chrome is all there; no missing parts and all are original to the car. I have the chrome trim for the front and back windshields. They are off the car because the rubber seals need to be replaces. They are in perfect condition and just need to be put back on. It’s really amazing to see the chrome and as good of shape that it’s in still original to the car. There are very small pits here and there in the chrome but from a few feet away. these are not visible. If you could find all the chrome pieces for this car it would be well in the thousands to replace it. The interiorThe interior is in pretty good shape. Everything inside the car is original except the radio. The radio is an aftermarket unit that is made to look like a vintage stereo. The difference is you can plug in your phone for audio or any digital audio player with an 1/8 jack. The headliner will need some work; it’s sagging in the back area and the headliner for the sunroof will need some attention. The sunroof by the way works. The dash has some cracking. but again this is all original stuff. The wood shows signs of it’s age as well and is all complete. There are no missing sections. The car was never picked at by other owners. The seats and door panels look great with only a couple of small tears here and there. The rear passenger left door is not opening. The motorOriginal motor and transmission. The motor. by far. is most impressive for a car of this age. The car starts right up. I start the car every week and let it idol just to keep everything working smoothly. It can be cold outside and the car has no issues starting. I will post a link to a video of this. Thank God there hasn’t been a Chevy conversion done to the car. It is after all a sin to remove a car’s motor! The motor has had some important work done to it. For everything listed below. I have the corresponding receipts and all documentation will be handed over with the sale of the car. Joe Curto AKA “The Carburetor King” rebuilt the carburetors in May of 2007. If you don’t know who Joe Curto is. follow this link… http://joecurto. com Also do a Google search on him and read all the British message board posts about him. Tapet Hold Down Kit and Valve seal. new fuel pumps. rebuild head and gasket. 6 Valve Guides. Valve Job. Install Guides and more. I have $8. 00 of receipts for parts and labor on this car. The BrakesThe brakes need to be worked on. The car needs a new master cylinder. You would also want to change the discs and pads. The parking brake is not working either. the car will need to be winched on a trailer. The parking brake I am told is self adjusting. The Wheels and TiresThe wheels look great for their age. Again. to replace there would be a fortune! These don’t need any work. They are rust free and have no dents. The tires are old but still hold air no problem. I have the receipts for the tires as well. OthersAs you can see from the pictures I have a few memorabilia pieces that go with the car. These items were purchaced just because I’m a fan of the XJ6 and thought these would be fun pieces to display with the car and show the history. I have an original sales brochure from 1973. This is quite a lot of fun to read what the marketing approach was for selling these cars back then. Also included is an original magazine ad from 1973. Again an interesting read and fun artifact that goes with the car. Also included with the sale of the car is a Series 1 information picture/card. This is a subscription card from Edito-Service / Atlas Editions. which meant the cards were never available as a retail set. the only way to acquire them was through subscription with Atlas between 1991 and 1995. Atlas would send several new packets of cards each month and you would remit payment to continue your subscription. I will also include my Haynes Restoration Manual for Series 1-3 XJ6. This is a helpful guide to study before doing any work on the car. I have done my best to represent the car well in this ad. If you have any questions that I have not covered. please feel free to ask. If anything I like talking about the car and it’s history. You are more than welcome to come to my house and view the car before bidding.
