Description for Jaguar XK 1951
Up for sale is one of our customer's cars. This 1951 Jaguar XK 120 is a numbers-matching, running & driving, fully-registered example that would be a great candidate for a restoration. This car was originally pastel blue metallic. There is evidence of this color inside in trunk & one of the disc wheels. The white paint on the body now is cracking badly and was literally coming off the trunk lid & rear body panels. We thought stripping the paint & exposing the bare body there to potential restorers was a good idea. Discussing priming of this area is possible before shipping.
Also, you may have noticed the wire wheels up front. These were installed to enable the car to receive a disc brake conversion leaving the disc wheels on the rear. You could convert the entire car to w/w's but you would not be able to use the spats. The original parts to put the front back to drum brakes and disc wheels are still around & go with the car.
The car has a convertible top & side curtains. Not working right now is the speedo, temp gauge and clock. The drivetrain, however, is good. The engine fires right up, runs smoothly & quiet with good oil pressure. The trans shifts well considering the car's age & the clutch works fine. This car drives quite well and has good brakes.
Rust is not a serious issue with this car - there is rust but it is going to take you a while to find it. No one has patched anything as far as I can tell except for the trunk handle area (photos). Examine the pictures of the chassis closely & you get a sense of what this car is all about.
We feel this to be a perfect candidate for a restoration. Almost unmolested, this car has only suffered minor indignities including a repaint & change of color, and the front-wheel brake change. Otherwise, the car is virtually original. Considering the fact that this is a running, & driving car, it stands out as a considerably easier undertaking. One could paint the car, restore the interior and be ready for a cars & coffee.
Considering the vast array of prices & conditions of the cars up for sale, we feel that we have priced this car fairly. For additional information, please feel free to contact Mark at the shop, tel. 410. 420-1202 or check out more pics at the markraspi.wordpress.com website.
