Description for Jeep Commando 1972
Not Restored just well maintained.
I bought this a couple years ago in Tennessee. The seller said he found it in a garage in Georgia and just painted it. We have used for recreation in our lake community every summer. We are moving and must sell it. It is a 4wd, V8, automatic with power brakes and fun to drive especially without the top!
The metal looks original and is in remarkable original condition. All pannels sound good when I tap on them, even the outer rockers. There is no undercoating, no black paint or similar coating hiding the condition of the under side of the the floors and inner rockers, just straight original looking metal with light surface rust. I can even see original factory etchings in the frame rails.
The clear coat on the removable top is bad and there are some light scratches in the paint, normal stuff from regular use. Overall it is a nice original driver. The V8 runs strong, very responsive, and all the gears in the automatic transmission work. the transfer case shifts easily in and out out of 2wd to 4wd. The doors, window cranks and all the mechanicals work to the best of my knowledge except the fuel gage, it is slow and not always accurate. It does burn some oil, I see a little puff when started cold, but it has not been a problem. I usually add a qt between changes.
The interior looks complete but could use some tlc, the original headliner is sagging it was not an issue for me because I used it as a convertible. The seats look original and are in good condition. The front passenger seat flips forward. The inner panels front and rear are in fair condition. It is remarkable that they survived all these years and could use a clip or two here or there. The carpet was replaced and very good condition.
Ive tried to describe the the condition as accurately as possible. The jeep is available for inspection and I encourage any to come check it out, you won't be disappointed, bring your plate and drive it home. I am selling it as is without any warranty. If I wasn't moving due to work I would keep it.
Thank you
Mike
