Description for Land Rover Range Rover 1994
For sale I have my very clean Cornish Cream 1994 Land Rover Range Rover County LWB. The LWB stands for long wheel base and if you've ever taken a ride in the back seat of a SWB version then you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. There is ample legroom for the occupants especially for those riding in the back. The LWB adds an additional 8 inches of legroom! This SUV is roomy and looks classy. It has a bit over 126k on the odometer and that is relatively low miles compared to others I've seen listed. There are plenty of Grand Cherokees and Explorer Sports around but how often do you see one of these in such nice condition? The body is clean and the common areas that are normally rusted on this vintage are free of corrosion. I have posted several (almost too many) pictures of the rear upper and lower tailgates as well as the door jambs to show how these rust prone areas are clean and clear. This Rover was purchased new in California and has been either there or in the dry state of Nevada since the end of 1993. The Cornish Cream paint is original throughout with the exception of the hood which appears to have a nicely done re-spray with a glossy clear coat. There are minor little dents and scratches around the SUV but the major blemish is located on the driver's side rear quarter panel. I commissioned a Paint-less Dent Removal company $150 to remove it. I had this done on Friday, eptember 18th. The man made the best attempt at removal though it can still be seen as a blemish from certain angles and up close. Regardless, ll panels remain original to the car. This thing looks amazing for its age. Several letters from the 'Range Rover' emblem on the hood were missing so I removed the rest of them and cleanly waxed off the remaining adhesive. I purchased a set of replacement 3 dimensional letters with 3M adhesive backing (pictured) that I will include but I prefer this clean look instead and have opted to leave the emblems off. The original front fog lights were missing their glass covers so I replaced them with Hella 550 Comet rectangular driving lights that are the exact same dimensions as the originals. I haven't wired them up yet but I can assure you they do work and are nice and bright when illuminated. I replaced the original chrome bumper due to a crease in the center from the previous owner. I like the stealth appearance of the black bumpers more so than the chrome ones and was either going to paint the rear bumper to match or replace it with a black one; however, never got around to doing it. Mechanically the original GM manufactured 4.2 liter v8 engine still runs strong. It cranks EVERY time and does so quickly with little to no effort. The transmission shifts smoothly and effortlessly. The AC Delco battery is a year old (purchased in August of 2014) and holds its charge even after sitting for two weeks without being driven. The fuel pump, eal, nd relay were replaced less than 300 miles ago with new units. The transmission service was performed at British 4x4 of Reno less than 50 miles ago. They flushed the fluids and replaced the filter and gaskets. The oil pan gasket was replaced at the same time to correct an oil leak and the oil filter and engine oil was replaced with 10w-40 grade Castrol GTX. This thing leaves no oil spots on the ground and this is rare if you know anything about Land Rover products. Even my much newer 2001 Discovery leaves spots. While underneath the Classic I spotted a brake fluid leak and proceeded to replace the front left brake caliper, ll the front brake pads, nd both front brake rotors which included re-packing the front wheel bearings with new grease. The front brake service was done at a cost of $479 in labor with several hundred more dollars being spent on semi-metallic pads and brand new rotors. The pads and rotors are shiny new and thus still wearing in; they make little clicking noises that disappear when the brakes are pressed and this should go away with more regular use. This Classic stops on a dime and with little foot effort. Again, he brakes on this 94 LWB are less spongy than my Discovery brakes! The ABS engages as should when necessary. To round it out the rear differential was drained, lushed, nd filled with fresh 80w-90 gear oil. This work was performed within the last 30 days. Also, he transfer case was replaced with a used unit to rectify the viscous coupling issue that is very common for this vintage Rover. The previous viscous was almost completely seized and I purchased a used Borg-Warner transfer case with accompanying viscous coupling to address this tight turning issue. Though it made the issue much more tolerable the used case and coupling wasn't 100% perfect either. Again, t is much better than the original transfer case; however, he new owner may opt to swap out to the LT230 case from the newer 2003-2004 Discovery Series 2 with the locking center differential that many other Classic enthusiasts are doing. As it is now, hen the steering wheel is at full lock the SUV will chirp and stumble a bit but otherwise it has no problems driving long straight distances. I invested just under $1,200 on switching out the cases and I will let the new owner decide whether or not to go locking center diff. or not. As it sits now this Classic will easily cruise the highway at 80+ mph to any destination in North America or beyond. Other services which were performed in the last year or so include: new OEM alternator from the Land Rover dealership at 111,792 miles, ew radiator hoses and coolant flush done at 119k miles, eplaced the A/C, lternator belts and cleaned the Mass Air Flow meter at 105k. Within the last 20k miles the spark plugs, gnition wires, istributor cap and rotor were replaced and the original air suspension was removed due to leaking air bags and replaced with 4 new yellow Bilstein shocks and medium duty coil springs. The ride is SO VERY nice and smooth with a significant improvement in handling due to the upgraded shocks. The new owner won't have to worry about the air suspension failing and the added expense and frustration that comes with it. I cannot reiterate enough how soft and comfortable the ride is with these new Bilstein shocks. This 1994 Classic rides much better than my 2001 Discovery. The tires are not a matching set. The front two tires are Mastercraft 235/70/16s from Les Schwab with remaining warranty. The rear set is a pair of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza size 255/65/16. The front and rear tires are all factory spec 29" in diameter. The set has a good 35-45% life remaining but new tires should be purchased in the next calendar year or so depending on how much this vehicle is used. A set of larger All-Terrain of MT/R tires were my original plan when purchased but I never got around to it. As for the interior the original leather seats are still in wonderful shape for their age with no tears, ips, r major stains. There are wear spots that I have tried to highlight for you. The top left corner of the driver's seat shows wear. I applied Leatherique restoration and cleaner fluids to all leather and it has made the leather feel more supple. The headliner could use a refresh as it is original material and the glue has come undone after all these years. The material itself is $160 online and can easily be tackled as a weekend project by the DIYer. As a matter of fact so can most all of the quirks found in these vintage Rovers. They are much less complex than these newer model Land Rovers. The heat and A/C work; however, he blower switch or motor is finicky. Set on the highest level the blower will cut in and out by itself. The previous owner thinks it's the switch. I haven't explored it any further as my last few Classics had fully functioning A/Cs that couldn't keep the cabin comfortably cool here in the desert. The large sunroof opens, loses, nd tilts at the touch of a button. The seat switch on the driver's side works in all positions but the passenger side is very temperamental- most likely remedied with a few sprays of electrical contact cleaner or at the worst a new switch. The passenger side tilts and raises up and down but the contacts need to be cleaned again to regain sliding action. I sprayed the contacts briefly when I first purchased this Classic and was able to get the passenger seat to tilt and raise. I feel that the other functions will follow if the new owner takes the switch out completely and does a more thorough job than I did. The front power windows both work flawlessly; however, he back two windows are stuck in the closed position because of a faulty window lift ecu. I have a guaranteed good working replacement that I will include with the sale. The previous owner had this diagnosed at the Land Rover dealership and I searched out the part. I haven't the spare time to locate the old lift ecu to replace it. The heated seats and cruise control are in-op as is the case with 9.5 out of every 10 of these vintage Classics. The original stereo and 6 disc CD Changer / cassette player are still installed and remain untouched. The radio code is written in the manual. The LCD display on the radio is cloudy and this is a common occurrence on classics as well. The instrument surround (plastic piece that goes around the speedometer and tachometer) is sun faded and cracked. I found a nicer one on-line and will include it with the sale. It is pictured. The fuse panel cover is missing and I cannot locate another one at a pick-n-pull or online. I have one original key and key fob. The fob works to unlock and lock the doors but will need a new battery as the one that is in it has flat-lined. The shift tape around the shift lever is torn but I have a newer one that will come with the car. I've included pictures of it. The original owners manual and folder are included as well as all the documents and receipts that I have on hand. The original carpet floor mats as well as a pair (2) of heavy duty all weather front mats also come with the Classic. Underneath the steering column the previous owner had a rectangular piece of trim cut out to remedy the non-working windows just to later have our local Land Rover dealership diagnose the faulty window lift ECU. Included with the sale is a new piece of under steering wheel trim to replace the old slashed trim piece. I have spent loads of time and money to bring this Classic back to collectible status. I have no doubt the next owner will be able to quickly and easily continue where I reluctantly have to leave off. I have owned four of these Range Rover County Classics prior to finding this one. I cannot seem to get away from them. I have a love-hate relationship with these things. When I start hating them I just sit back and look at the timeless design and the comfortable commanding presence that it exudes when I'm sitting in the driver's seat and I realize all over again why I grew to love these things in the first place. I get thumbs up from owners of the newer and much more expensive Land Rovers everywhere it's spotted. If it weren't for a growing family I would surely insist on keeping this 1994 LWB for my boy when he turns driving age but as it is, nd circumstances being the way they are, must opt to outfit our 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series 2 for our growing family instead. Thank you for looking and please feel free to message me with any questions. This vehicle is being sold as-is and in Reno, evada where it sits. No warranties are expressed or implied. I will gladly assist in shipping but it is the buyer's ultimate responsibility and at the buyer's expense. I can also meet the prospective buyer for a test drive and I strongly advise having it inspected by a qualified mechanic. Brian at British 4x4 of Reno located in nearby Sparks, evada is the man I highly recommend. I have tried to describe the vehicle to the best of my ability and though I am an avid enthusiast who has owned several vintage Range Rovers I am not a qualified mechanic by any means. I have described and pictured everything I can think of. I even had the tires balanced this week and took pictures of the underside of the car while the car was on the lift. I want all prospective buyers to be familiar with my classic in order to make a well informed decision. I am willing to pick up the buyer at the Reno-Tahoe airport and I have no doubt you can drive this thing across country if you want to make a scenic trip out of it's purchase. Again, hank you for looking. Please allow these pictures to load up as there are almost 300 of them.
