Description for Lincoln Continental 1940
When this car was on display in a private museum, a plaque (included in sale), was displayed with the following information:
1940 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet : The Lincoln Continental was conceived by Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford and head of the Lincoln Division, while Edsel was vacationing in Europe in the late 1930s. He noticed that the European trend in elegant sports cars was toward lower cars with long hoods and bobbed tails, such as the Jaguar SS100 and certain Roll-Royce town cars. On this return to Detroit, he asked chief designer Bob Gregorie to make up such a model for him, using the 1938 Lincoln Zephyr as a base. Gregorie created what became the Continental prototype car, and Edsel had it sent down to Palm Beach for the winter, where it caused a sensation: many of Edsel's friends asked him to make a Continental for them as well. The car went into production during mid 1939 and was introduced in September 1939.
This car is the75th Lincoln Continental ever and was made in January, 1940. It is said to have been first purchased by the Wrigley family, who had it sent to their Phoenix ranch.

We recently completed a professional restoration of this solid rust free western car. Car runs, drives & shows very well. Shows 12236 miles. Within the last 2 years, we repainted the car in base coat - clear coat black. All chrome was re-plated, including the top bows. Stainless steel was renewed & polished. We fabricated & installed the interior with Hirsch premium leather & GAHH wool carpet, as well as, new stayfast top & correct trunk kit. The previous owner had the car upgraded to 12 volt, added extra chrome under the hood & a dual carburetor set-up for improved power & drivability. John Kepich 336-492-2286.
