Description for Lincoln Continental 1962
Up for auction a 1962 Sedan. 1962 is a special year for lincoln as it has a redesigned grille from the 1961 model which is similar in style to 1963 and 1964 model years. Also in 1963, they redesigned the deck lid making it taller. The 1962 short style decklid accentuates the rear fins more than the later model years. The story I got from the previous owner is that he purchased the car in 1999 and he was the 2nd or 3rd owner. At some point, the engine overheated and seized. He had it towed to a mechanic where it rolled into a post which damaged the front passenger fender. I see no evidence of any rust through holes. The fender looks like an easy fix for a good body man. The Hood and deck lid appear to be solid which is a rare find. the 1961 through 1965 Lincolns were prone to rust through on the hoods and deck lids. The reason for this is that the factory didn't paint between the sheet metal and frames of the deck lid and hood. From the factory, they applied caulk to these areas which ended up trapping moisture inside making them prone to rust through. As I said, this cars deck lid and hood have no evidence of rust through. The underside looks to be in amazing condition. The leather seats appear to be in great shape. the dash looks good although the wood trim is weathered. It could use a new headliner. All the glass is in great shape. The odometer shows 2185 miles I believe the actual mileage is 102185 miles. The car has been sitting for about 18 years untouched in a garage with a car cover on it and with moisture-absorbing material in the cab. This is a great candidate for a restoration or just a new engine and a paint job. Any lincoln engine from 1961 through early 1968 would be a proper and easy fit. That would be the MEL (Mercury Edsel Lincoln) 430 or 462ci. It will connect right up to the existing transmission which I was told was working very well prior to the engine troubles. The car is located in Portland OR. Clean title in hand. This car will need to be winched onto the transport trailer. I'm happy to help load the vehicle and am happy to continue storing it for a reasonable amount of time until transportation arrangements can be made. Transportation costs are the buyer's responsibility. Please contact with any questions. Please click below to see a youtube photo slideshow with 126 pics.1962 Lincoln slideshow 3
