Description for Lincoln Town Car 1985

1985 Lincoln Town Car

The second-generation Town Car was a sales success and became one of the best-selling full-size U.S. luxury sedans. During the late 1980s and early 1990s, Town Car sales regularly exceeded 100,000 units with 120,121 Town Cars being sold in 1994 alone. Following the discontinuation of the Cadillac Fleetwood by General Motors after 1996, the Lincoln Town Car became the longest-length regular-production sedan sold in the United States.

For consignment a 1985 version of the Lincoln Town Car. Showing very nicely in mid 1980's square and rectangle design motif, it has been the beneficiary of a respray to factory matching color, a new vinyl landau top, and many mechanical fixes and redux's to bring her up to snuff. A 3 owner car; first by a minister in Florida, then to his daughter from Pennsylvania, then to the current consigner where it has been lovingly cared for and well maintained. 1985 never looked so good...and luxurious! AMEN!

Exterior
All straight rust free steel slabs straight as arrows cover this car, and are covered themselves in an excellent respray matching the original factory color... that being white. For 1985, the model was given a mid-cycle facelift. In addition to (slightly) improving its aerodynamics, the design was intended to visually shorten the car (though length was essentially unchanged). The front and rear bumpers were redesigned, better integrating them into the bodywork. The rear fascia was redesigned; distinguished by redesigned tail lamps, the trunk lid was better integrated with the rear fenders. Still there are the iconic front grille, big and chromed with the vertical Lincoln star on top. A padded blue "coach top" covers the rear third of the roof, and certainly adds more class. Signature Series badging denotes the trim level, and I can say all trimmings are looking great, with just a slight oops on the passenger rear wheel well trim. All else is like new. Chromed spoked wheel covers are wrapped in thin whites on all 4 corners and are low mileage specimens.

Interior
A swing of the massive well balanced doors reveals some of the luxury and conveniences you are about to have at your fingertips. Starting out with the initial opening of a code punch or keyless entry on the door sill. Nice and clean tan molded plastic intermixes with wood appliqu, some chromed trimmings, a lower warm gray carpet and lots-o-buttons like power windows, power locks, power seat controls and a side view mirror toggle. Slipping inside I originally thought I was in my living room in front of the TV, but I digress, and was inside this wonderful opulent automobile. Big padded leather seats in light tan showing some folding and patina as aged leather tends to do, forming what will be your favorite comfortable chair. Dual big padded armrests are in the center and can be hoisted up is an additional passenger tags along. In back is another large padded rear bench, with similar aging. The dash is more square and rectangle design, with padded light tan vinyl, wood appliqu and clear covered instrumentation to keep dust to a minimum. Plenty of controls for climate, cruise control, intermittent wipers, and power steering from the original adjustable column and padded steering wheel showing slight dirt. More light gray carpet for the floors which is in nice condition, and a light tight tan headliner is above. On the driver's side there is slight wear from all the ins and outs of the driver, but it is minimal in the overall scheme of things with this well preserved land yacht.

Drivetrain
All 4.9 liters (302ci) Windsor V8 is stuffed under the hood. It is all unrestored and original, showing the passage of time. On back is a 4-speed Automatic Over Drive automatic transmission.

Undercarriage
This car is utilizing the Panther platform shared with Ford and Mercury to save on weight and improve fuel economy. This version was the shortest wheelbase and overall length Lincoln since the Versailles. A bit of surface rust on the axles and intermittently found on the underside but overall, it remains structurally very sound for this Panther platform. Front disc brakes and rear drums are installed from the factory. Gas filled shocks and coil springs are seen for suspension and smooth ride.

Drive-Ability
Due to many consigner documented rebuilds and repairs, this car started quickly and ran beautifully. It shifts smoothly and oh what a smooth ride as I lumbered down the highway fantasizing about who the next minion I was going to fire!

A 3 owner car with just a tick over 100K miles but well cared for in its lifetime, and a start in sunny Florida. Our consigner took great care of her, and it shows and goes as such. Nice paint, comfy interior, and plenty of conveniences, this car is still living large from 1985.
