Description for Maserati Mexico 1967

Teaming up with (arguably Maserati's go-to coachbuilder) Vignale, a prototype of coachwork was prepared atop the underpinnings of the successful 5000GT for the 1965 Salone di Torino. This prototype promptly sold to Adolfo López Mateos, then President of Mexico and the moniker was born. One year later the production version went on international display at the Paris Auto Show.Somewhat of a departure from Maserati's traditional approach to the 2+2 GT, the Mexico filled the gap in their ...line-up, featuring the best aspects of both the bulky Frua Quattroporte and the performance Ghia Ghibli. Luxury abounds with the wood embellishments and plush accommodations for all four passengers (in which, the rear occupants can actually fit!). Maserati's first 4-wheel vented, servo assisted disc brakes came as standard along with air conditioning and power windows. Options for power steering and a Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic transmission were available and, when one preferred, the car could be ordered with the Borrani wire wheel option. Though the Mexico was hefty with all the appointments, it wasn't sluggish, and could nearly keep pace with its Ghibli brother's 155mph top speed! Offered HereEquipped with the powerful four-cam V-8, this car came with the preferred 5-speed ZF gearbox and desirable Boranni wire wheels. This car was previously acquired outside Sarasota, Florida around 25 years ago, and has been largely untouched in a barn for the last decade. The engine number is a match to the chassis (a startling 6th car off of the line!) and the interior is believed to be original aside from the cloth recover on the seats. Featuring Euro lenses and a speedometer that reads metric increments, this car was clearly not delivered new to the U.S. Upon a close inspection, there is evidence that the original color may have been blue. The engine has been started by means of force feed through the carburetors and the body and chassis is remarkably dry considering its age. This car is not roadworthy at this current time and will require a partial or full restoration to make this vehicle roadworthy. Classic Investments employs technicians highly experienced with the Maserati marque - please inquire about our ability to provide any services required. We look forward to addressing all of your questions.
