Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 1987

I have many, any additional photos available in an iCloud photo library, ncluding videos of the engine running. eBay does not permit linking to these and caps the photos at a max of 24, o if you're interested send me a message and I can forward you the URL.
You are bidding on a very well-maintained,

rust-free(CA/TX/GA) vehicle with documented service history. Arctic White with Palomino MB-Tex seats.
This is a rare model in the US. Worldwideproduction figures for this vehicle were 2386 for model year 1987.
At this point there are very few examples in excellent condition, nd this number is shrinking all the time. To date, his was the FINAL year that Mercedes-Benz brought a diesel wagon to US shores.
I am the second owner of this vehicle. Before purchasing the vehicle, booked an airline flight to Texas, et with the first owners son and a service advisor at Park Place Mid-Cities.
Here is what I know about the vehicle as the second owner. It was purchased new from Johnson Motors in West Covina, A in November 1986 by an elderly couple. Eventually it was used only to shuttle them to/from medical appointments, hich explains the low mileage for its age. It was sold to me in August 2011 with 99,226 miles by their son (himself in his 60's). He and his parents had always had the car maintained at a dealer. I have hardcopy service records dating to 2004. Earlier hardcopy service records were lost in the relocation from California to Texas with the exception of the maintenance booklet showing the pre-2004 service history. During my pre-purchase inspection, attempted to verify the remaining service history; the selling dealer no longer exists but the stamps in the maintenance book testify to this certified dealer service. Park Place Mid-Cities in Bedford, X could however tell me that the well-known Trap Oxidizer recall had been performed in March 1999 with 30,082 miles.
Since taking possession of the car, have extensively freshened the car mechanically at two independent mechanics recommended by local MBCA chapter members - Austrian Motors in Atlanta and Blue Ridge MB in Lilburn. Essentially, arte blanche was given to the mechanics to bring the car to as close to top-running condition as possible using only OEM parts. In addition to regularly scheduled fluid changes and maintenance this includes:
Cooling system

  • Radiator replaced with proper Behr metal unit
  • Viscous fan coupling
  • All hoses replaced
  • Citric acid flush

Fuel system
  • All fuel injectors replaced
  • All glow plugs replaced
  • Glow plug relay replaced
  • Fuel tank filter/screen replaced

Suspension/Brakes
  • New rotors/pads
  • Front struts (proper Bilstein replacements)
  • Tie rods / Idler arms
  • SLS bushing
  • Alignment
  • 4 Michelin Primacy MXV4 tires
  • SLS hydraulic system flush

Interior
  • Cruise control amplifier replaced
  • Sunroof - lubricated with proper grease and wind deflector tangs replaced
  • All instrument cluster lights replaced
  • Outside temperature indicator replaced
  • Proper double roller blind (doggie fence) in Palomino MB-Tex sourced and installed
  • Liftgate hydraulic rams replaced

Climate Control
  • A/C compressor replaced
  • Inside unit coil replaced
  • Dryer replaced
  • Expansion valve replaced
  • All climate control vacuum actuator pods replaced
  • Climate control user interface replaced

Exterior
  • Power antenna replaced with proper Hirschmann rebuilt unit
  • Underhood insulation pad replaced
  • Windshield wiper assembly lubricated
  • Headlamp sealed-beam units replaced

Known issues - these are relatively nitpicky and minor, ut in the interest of full disclosure...
  • Minor scuff to bumper rubber (see photos, as present when I obtained the car)
  • Front tow hook cover missing
  • Small rock pecks on windshield (repaired but can be seen, ifficult to show in a photo)
  • Speakers on right side sometimes crackle or do not play
  • Motorized actuator for soft-close on tailgate occasionally does not actuate
  • Driver's side power headrest actuates but occasionally does not go down
This car can accurately be described as a "survivor". In other words, riginal paint, riginal trim. All in very good condition given its vintage. Aside from known issues mentioned above everything works as it should. It is not a concours example, ut pretty damn close.
Why am I selling after spending well over $20K (not including purchase price)? This is purely an issue of too many vehicles. I now work for an employer where I have a company car, s does my partner. We simply do not have space to properly store the vehicle. This is a special vehicle that deserves to find the right owner. Otherwise I would definitely keep it.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have that have not been covered above. Just drop me a message.
