Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 1979
I've had this 1979 300SD for about 10 years and just never found the time and money to work on it. Now I'm also out of space and it needs to go. It needs a lot of work.
It starts up easily and runs well.
It probably has a large vacuum leak - the door locks are slow to work and do not hold vacuum, the brakes have gotten very weak, and the engine no longer turns off with the key. You must open the hood and press the stop button.
It needs a front wheel bearing replaced.
It has two oil leaks, a transmission fluid leak, and a power steering fluid leak.
It was rear-ended while stopped by a car going about 10 mph. It needs work on the rear quarter panels and the rear panel. A new-in-box rear panel is included with the sale.
The car was hit in the front before I bought it. The radiator support was replaced and the hood was replaced with a steel hood. A correct aluminum hood is included with the sale.
The chrome trim pieces not in the pictures are available and will be included in the sale.
The car was repainted a darker than original green before I owned it. It's not in good condition. The original color is a fairly rare silver green color.
The heater works fine, but the air conditioning needs work.
The interior is in fair condition except for cracks in the dash and a tear in the back seat.
The transmission has flares when shifting gears. This is probably related to having a vacuum leak. If you disconnect vacuum from the transmission, it changes gears properly (but hard as it should without vacuum), It might be an easy fix. I don't know.
The front and rear window seals need to be replaced. The car has been stored under a carport to make sure water stays out.
The sunroof does not work easily. Cleaning and lubrication of the tracks may fix it.
The tires are about 10 years old. They hold air, but are dry and cracked.
The car can be driven onto a transporter, but I would not recommend driving it more than a few miles as is.
The car is on CA non-op status with the DMV. No back fees are due.
Please let me know if you have any questions or would like more pictures.
I can help load the car onto a trailer, but shipping is otherwise the buyer's responsibility.
I understand it can be difficult to buy a car on ebay so, if the winning bidder lives more than 50 miles from Bakersfield, CA, shows up to get the car after winning the auction, and then decides not to buy it, the deposit will be refunded and negative feedback will not be left. This does not apply to buyers within 50 miles of Bakersfield.
