Description for Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 1983

1983

Mercedes Benz
240D Diesel Sedan

VIN: WDBAB23A9DB387638

Here's another great running & driving accident-free Mercedes we've recently acquired for our great Ebay customers. From the moment I first laid eyes on this clean, well-kept sedan, it was obvious the car's been treated with respect and care over the years. Reluctantly, it was turned over to me a few weeks ago for resale after the long-term owner accepted a new work assignment. I've got to tell you, having driven it virtually every day since, what a treat! Where else will you find this kind of vintage style, safety, mechanical reliability AND terrific (25+MPG) fuel economy wrapped up in one nice ride? Please feel free to contact me with any questions. My name is Mark and my direct number is (206) 914-1173. You're welcome and encouraged to make an appointment to inspect and test-out this nice car.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Ever driven one of these Mercedes with the thrifty, bullet-proof 2.4 liter diesel engine? They're great in-town and highway cars. After one learns how to manage the acceleration curve, they become great fun to drive! I've always considered the W123 chassis cars constructed through the late -80's as some of the last hand-built, truly high-quality Mercedes and have heard others say the same thing! Take a look at the photos and I'm sure you'll agree with me what a decent find this is. What you see is the result of a wash and vacuum only. Rust? Please! This Benz HATES rust and you won't find a thing to worry about here. Yes, the Puget Sound area is famous for rain, but our winter roads are never salted. We only have one or two days of light snow each year. Everyone panics and just stays home. Climb over, under and all around this car - I know you'll come up smiling!!
Having personally owned many Benz over the years, I've developed a great appreciation for the Mercedes style, mechanical reliability and overall driving experience. THIS CAR RUNS OUT JUST AS IT WAS MEANT TO, VIRTUALLY AS WELL AS THE DAY OF THE FINAL WHITE GLOVE INSPECTION BACK IN STUTGARTT. I'VE NEVER DRIVEN A VINTAGE 240D MERCEDES THAT I'VE LIKED BETTER!! You'll be proud to own and drive it as well.

CONDITION:

In total, this is a clean, well-cared-for, smoke-free car. I take pride in the vehicles we offer here on Ebay and feel that you should know as much about the vehicle as possible. Accordingly, here is a list of the good and a few small things needing attention: take literally two or three seconds to heat the glow plugs when starting cold and the peppy 2.4L inline four diesel engine starts immediately every time with only seconds of starter cranking! The four-speed transmission shifts smoothly without clutch slippage. The car idles, runs and drives like a diesel Mercedes is supposed to - strong, immediate oil pressure, strong battery and charging system, no brake pull or alignment issues! The fuel system is completely stock and has NEVER been exposed to component-destroying biodiesel or a goofy homemade conversion. There is NO excessive engine smoke, even after sitting at idle for minutes. I've now driven over 400 miles over the past three weeks and freeway cruised at 60 MPH for several hours. The factory original paint's had one respray and is in overall average condition - still very presentable, but with age flaws. While you won't find any clear coat peeling, there is a lacquer check spot on the trunk lid and a door along with the usual amount of minor bumps, dings and scratches you'd expect. The front fenders, doors, rear quarters and floor pans are all very solid; in fact the entire undercarriage is in fine condition for a thirty-five year old car! No other real body flaws to point out; all the glass is crack and chip-free. The stock Mercedes wheels are straight and true. They're wrapped with almost-new Michelin touring radials, each with at least 90% remaining tread.

Take another good look at the interior pics. Often, you'll find worn seat springs on these cars. This is NOT the case here. Hop in and feel comfortable sitting on these firm buckets for hours. The original MB vinyl-tex upholstery (including the rear bench) has held up exceedingly well. There's no evidence of any water leakage on the excellent headliner. The vacuum-actuated lock system operates on all doors correctly. No issues with the heat or defrost and the fan works great. Service will be needed to make the air conditoning system blow cold. It appears all A/C components behind the dash and under the hood are present.

Either a Blaupunkt or Becker stereo came in these Mercedes when new and they always seem to be their weakest link. It's pretty rare to find one still working and, like most, this rig was upgraded with a Kenwood AM-FM CD and it works great and has excellent radio reception. About the only negatives I've run across are: the power sunroof does not open or close smoothly. I'm guessing the cables have stretched over time as the electric motor runs when the dash switch is activated, but movement doesn't happen. Decent floor mats are in place front and back, but new carpet mats are needed along with a missing section along the driver's side inner wall (beneath the doors)

I'm always very happy to work with any shipper you choose, but you're also welcome to do what many of my past buyers from as far away as Alaska, Arizona, the Midwest, Canada, Florida, New York and even the Mexican Baja have done - fly in here to Seattle (we'll pick you up at Sea-Tac International just a few miles away) and then start a road trip home the same day. I wouldn't hesitate to drive cross-country in this car! As a respected Ebay seller with many satisfied online buyers, I want you to bid with confidence knowing that the Mercedes runs and drives as it should AND that it is being properly represented to you! Please don't be upset if I miss a minor flaw or some small issue comes up. No used vehicle is ever perfect. Having said that, I won't hesitate to drive this Benz cross-country today!

Please check the photos over closely and call me with any questions BEFORE you place a bid! You're encouraged to stop by, inspect the Mercedes at my Auburn, WA warehouse and take it for a test drive. Hiring a professional inspection service is also fine. Because of the amount of money involved with a vehicle purchase, I reserve the right to cancel your bid if you have any negative feedback and ask that potential bidders with a feedback rating of five or fewer transactions contact me before placing a bid. Please feel free to contact me directly thru Ebay's system or, as outlined above, call or text me at (
206) 914-1173. My name is MARK.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

Full payment is due by cash (in person only) or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me. I can accept credit or debit cards, but will first need to send an invoice and ask that you cover the 3.5% fee our processor charges us. Please remember you're bidding to buy and I fully expect the winner to fulfill their Ebay contract! You're not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You're more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you decide to have theMercedes transported home, there are scores of companies to choose from. I ship vehicles regularly and am happy to make suggestions about who to use. In addition to quotes using the shipping tab here on the auction site, you might also get bids directly from U-Ship.com. You'll be able to choose a broker from multiple offers. The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington). We do have a shipper that regularly delivers for us to western states and has arranged transport to the Midwest and East Coast. Ultimately, shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER.

The information described above is based on the observed condition when listed. I've done my best to describe the car as honestly as possible and encourage bidders to contact me with questions.

Thecar can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received. After that period storage is $20 per day. Though I have NO doubts about the vehicle's road-worthiness, it is being sold "as-is, where-is”.
