Description for Mercury Deluxe Coupe 1951

1951 Mercury Deluxe 6-Passenger Coupe

Beautifully accessorized with tons of factory and dealer installed options! Beautifully restored California car by Larry Evenson! Excellent driver and show winner!

Mercury was founded in 1937 by Edsel Ford as a bridge between the top-end Fords and the base Lincolns of the time. It was a brand that arguably struggled with an identity during its primitive years but ultimately hit full stride after the war. Introduced in 1939, the Mercury 8 started life with a flathead and really came into its own with the release of the third generation in 1949. As the first post-war Mercury, it came out swinging with a larger 255ci Flathead V8 and unique styling that better differentiated it from its Ford roots. This new integrated fender "ponton" design helped Mercury break sales records in 1949. With many finding their way into the hands of customizers immediately from dealer showrooms, so finding an uncut, un-chopped, or unmodified example today is very difficult!

We are excited to represent this stunning nut-and-bolt restored 1951 Mercury 6-passenger Deluxe Coupe! Professionally restored very recently in its original two-tone color of Sheffield Green & Tomah Ivory with stellar results! The factory style cloth interior has been perfectly executed in a sharp two-tone green and gray which carries from the floor to ceiling. Options include strong running 255ci Flathead V8, Merc-O-Matic automatic transmission, factory rear axle ratio, working AM radio with sound adjustment (Hi-Fidelity, Bass, Normal, & Lo Noise) & factory rear seat speaker, front & rear bumper guards, reverse lights, windshield sun visor, rocker moldings & front fender rock guards, dual spotlights & rearview mirrors, BF Goodrich Silvertown Radial wide whitewall tires measuring 225/75R15, full polished wheel covers, fender skirts, rear continental kit, stainless steel door handle paint protector & gas tank door paint protector, interior Guide dash reflector, rear assist handles, and more!

This finish work to make the shine on all metal body work far just exceeds just the exterior, and carries into the inner fender wells, radiator surround, firewall, inner jams of the hood, trunk, & doors, and more! A true testament to the character of the nearly rust-free California foundation, the expertise of the restorer Larry Evenson during this frame-off restoration, and the level of quality they set out from the beginning to achieve with a car that was fully disassembled properly! The gaps and body fitment are second to none. The entire frame was media-blasting to bare metal before being fully painted with all new body mounts, fully rebuilt suspension system front and rear, all new braking system with stainless steel lines, fresh hoses, etc., and all new fuel system starting with new gas tank, stainless steel lines, new electric fuel pump, filters, and more!

Under the hood rests a fully overhauled and correct 255ci L-head V8 with auxiliary oil filter, original 2-barrel carburetor & factory air cleaner. The transmission shifts with ease and engages smoothly through all gears. The exhaust now breaths through new aluminized dual exhaust pipes with resonating mufflers. Keeping everything cool is a new radiator with an added overflow recovery tank. All of the wire harnesses throughout the car are new, and period correct 6-volt positive ground, utilizing cloth-covered wiring and a generator charging system. The chrome and bright work are equally excellent! All window seals are new as is the door & trunk weather stripping. We feel the results are nothing short of superb, with a show quality appearance that should easily impress all onlookers and event judges alike! Please feel welcome to call with additional questions! We look forward to working with you!
