Description for Mercury Other 1969
For Sale: A 1969 Mercury Cyclone Spoiler II; this is an extended nose. limited production Dan Gurney Special; car is mid-restoration; this car is in the Registry; the Registry indicates there have been 134 Spoiler II's located; Marti indicates there were 218 Dan Gurney Specials produced; there are 34 Dan's identified in the Registry; my Registry is about 10 years old. so these numbers may have been updated since that time; due to two kids in college and job change. I must reluctantly sell my 12 year project; car has been through a lengthy restoration process thus far; when purchased. car was in very poor condition; there was one crushed rear quarter and door; cowl/firewall area looked like Swiss cheese; there was rust in LR quarter; there was no drivetrain. along with about 50 pounds of asphalt stuck to the inner fenders; car was completely disassembled. parts cataloged and labeled. and we started identifying what needed to be done; we (my Father-In-Law in Texas helped immensely with the project) acquired a donor car out of Atlanta. and used the RR quarter. one door. the cowl/firewall and radiator core support; car was media blasted. then the real work began; replacement panels were installed (none of the Spoiler II-specific body panels needed to be replaced); toe boards were also replaced when the cowl was installed; while the bodywork was underway. the engine and transmission were rebuilt; the engine is a correct date coded 351 Windsor. originally in a 1969 Cyclone; suspension and brakes were reconditioned and reinstalled; once all body work was complete. the car was placed on a frame machine to make sure the unibody was straight and within factory specifications; car was repainted using 2-stage Martin Senour paint in the correct MX paint codes.
