Description for Mercury Montego 1970

1970 Cyclone Spoiler, 429 Cobra Jet with 4spd and ram air, Competition Orange with black interior. Very early car, built September 8th 1969. Has power steering, power disc brakes, hidden headlights and gauge package. Still has correct KelseyHayes rally wheels. It is a complete running Cyclone Spoiler has that needs restoration.

The body is overall pretty straight with a few minor dents here and there. Hood, right fender and grill were replaced many years ago. Some rust in floors, lower doors, passenger trunk drop and front of hood. The quarter panels are verysolid and the cowl looks good as well. Trunk has one rust spot but is overall pretty good. It had a very rare factory vinyl top top but it was removed long ago and the roof is very solid as a result. The bumpers are straight, glass is good. The grill in innice shape. Missing one front fender extension moulding and one rear extension moulding but they are common to all Cyclones and Montegos and easy to find. Comes with new plastic reproduction front spoiler (that I don't think you can buy any longer) but I didn't want to install it so it wouldn't getdamaged during shipping. Has original, very hard to find, wheel well trim that all Cyclone Spoilers should have but few actually do.

The interior is original other than the carpet. The seats are in pretty good shape with some minor wear. Door panels are nice. Headliner needs replacement and the dash has the typical crack.

The 429 Cobra Jet is strong with no smoke or noise. It is not matching #'s but is the correct D0VE A block with D0OE CJ heads, correct CJ exhaust manifolds, SCJ intake manifold, correct valve covers and original ram air. It has a Holley850 double pumper and a single point distributor. It has a slightly larger cam and sounds nice with newer 2.5" exhaust. The toploader works well and has the original shifter and T handle. The clutch works well. Shifter could use adjustment since I installedit but never got around to properly adjusting it. Missing N case but still has 31 spline axles and non N case differential. Comes with original fan shroud with an easily repairable crack at the bottom that would not be visible when installed. Complete, runningand driving but probably not quite ready to be a driver. A little basic maintenance and it could be back on the road.

Overall this is a very complete, factory 4 speed Cyclone Spoiler in one of the best colors with much of the hard to find parts in place. Priced where you can afford to do a proper restoration and still have equity in the car since restoredSpoilers are quite valuable. It was sold new in Seattle and has remained in the area its whole life. It has been off the road since the 80's, shows 79,203 miles and it is supposedly original which is very believable. Back then someone was going to make it into a Silver Springs type car andthey installed a full bar and strengthened the front lower crossmember that goes under the engine. The roll bar was removed but the reinforced crossmember is still in place. I have owned this for 10+ years and have been collecting parts but I have come to the conclusion that I am not going to get to it.

International buyers are welcome. Car is sold as is where is with no warranty expressed or implied. It is available for inspection by appointment only. I have done my best to describe it accurately but please understand that this is a 49year old car that is not new and has not been restored. I have sold quite a few cars on ebay and try very hard to describe them accurately and to make sure potential buyers have any information I would want as a buyer. In fairness to all bidders I will not disclose the reserve. I reserve the right to end the auction at any time, however, my intention is to let the auction run its course unless someone hits the buy-it-now. Reserve is less than buy it now but everybody wants to know what it will take to end theauction so I put a buy it now on there to avoid that question and if this car is exactly what you want and you don't want to risk losing it then you have an option. Please make sure you have funds available and have gotten permission from your wife, mom orwhomever you need permission from before bidding. Full payment must be made within 5 days of auction end and vehicle must be picked up within 21 days of auction end unless prior arrangements are made. Payment by cash or wire transfer only. Shipping is theresponsibility of the buyer but I will help however I can. Bidders with a feedback rating of less than 10 must contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel your bid.
