The motor runs strong. but smokes little on deceleration until it warms up. It has a rear soft plug leaking coolant and rear main oil seal leak. The ignition is stock points style distributor. It has a great bad a$$ sound with the duel exhaust 2 1/4" flow master mufflers and homemade street sweeper style tips. This listing comes with a spare running 289 A Code from a 64 fairlane and a 4 speed wide ratio top loader from a 60`s mustang. The spare engine has been cammed and has valve train work done on it. Transmission/ Gears/ Suspension:The transmission is a three speed converted to floor. with a Hurst Shifter. The clutch chatters a little when you let it out but does not slip. It has a 3. 00 posi-traction rear end with home 60`s style traction bars. so it rides stiff. but does not wheel hop when you get on it. As far as the brakes and suspension go. he car stops with out fail. but pulls to the left. It has a single reservoir master cyl and drum brakes on all four corners. The car has manual steering. and is not a corner carver but manages to crank it around pretty well. Over all it's not a bad ride. and is a stable smooth ride at 60. Big dips in the road will keep you on your toes with traction bars in the rear. its a little stiff. and yes its a little loud in the car with the exhaust. Body Exterior and Interior:Some body work has been done on it several years ago (before my time of owning it). ith quarter panel work ect. The body upper body as a whole is in very good non rusted condition but will need redone to be real nice. The underside is pretty decent. but will need some attention in the left front torque box are and there is a soft spot in the floor. The trunk drops and wheel house panels are little punky as well. no you cant throw a cat through them. Trim is all there with some extras with the exception of the left rear wheel opening trim. Interior is rough. The headliner was removed (it was sagging and stiching coming out). There are complete interior kits are available for this car at a fair price. The Comet was purchased about 5 yrs ago and have pretty much driven it when and where ever wanted. weather permitting. The car has rarely seen rain and hasn't seen snow. This car has been on three 2. 5 hr trips this year to car shows and drag races. In the first year it was driven to Virginia and back. With the thermostat sticking on the way down. it was pulled off the road to cool down and got there with no other issues. On the way back. at some point the voltage regulator stuck and cooked the battery. The car died down the street from home. and with a new battery it fired right up. It is now driven with the lights on so that it won't over charge the battery (needs new voltage regulator). This car is as you see it just as it was purchased 5 years ago. It's not perfect. and don't expect it to be without completing a restoration on it. As is the car can be driven regularly by keeping oil and coolant in it. Other than what has been mentioned in this listing it has needed no repairs and starts every time without fail. This Comet Caliente definitely gets a ton of attention where ever it goes.
