1976 MG B Roadster
RELISTED DUE TO NO BUYER CONTACT
I purchased this car about three years ago. I had several Bs when I was younger. The fact that it was owned by an auto body man was in my mind very desirable. This car has NO RUST anywhere ever. I spoke to this man at great length and was convinced that I was buying a car that I could drive and keep in my garage for many years, hopefully regaining some of the fun I had in driving my other Bs when I was young. This car is a blast to drive as it is quite loud and for a B, goes much faster than the two that I had prior to this.
Now why am I selling this beauty? Several years ago I had one knee replaced. Unfortunately it was one of the early type replacements and that means it is mechanically limited to just over 100 degrees. For me to get in and out of this car is very difficult. This makes it rather frustrating to have sitting in my garage and not be able to drive it without many contortions in getting in and out of it.
Now to what you are really interested in.
Engine;
He completely rebuilt the engine boring it out to .60 over stock and installing 9:1 compression ratio pistons. He installed British Parts Northwest 270 degree lift cam which does quite a bit for the upper end of the power curve. The head was rebuilt with hardened valve seats both for longevity and to help compensate for unleaded gas with methanol. The engine has been refitted with SU HS4 carbs to achieve much better throttle response and greater horsepower. The spark is provided by a Crane Fireball breakerless ignition system to increase the spark for the higher compression, and eliminate the points. The engine has only about 11,000 miles since it was rebuilt. This engine runs like a fine watch. The compression in every cylinder is within a few points of 160 PSI. I have driven this car on the Expressway for quite a distance and it uses no oil, nor does it require any carburetor tinkering. It just does what a car is supposed to do, it runs out strong and keeps running strong.
Transmission;
The transmission has been completely rebuilt with all new bearings, seals, gaskets and syncros. It shifts as it was designed to and makes no noises.
Clutch;
The clutch was replaced when the engine was rebuilt and still feels beefy.
Drive train;
The U joints were replaced when the engine was done. The rear end has been apart, inspected and reassembled, needing nothing.
Brakes;
Master Cylinder is new, front calipers are rebuilt and new rotors and pads were installed. The power brake unit was performance checked and works perfectly.
Electrical System;
All lights work along with the radio and CD player.
Exterior;
The car was stripped down the body color sanded and was repainted Camine red. The original color of this car was Primrose yellow which in its heyday was a very dull shade of yellow. I don’t think they sold too many in this color as it was just a “blaaa” color. His comment to me was if he were doing this prep and paint job for a customer it would cost them between $4,500. and $5,000. The top is a brand new Robbins top and I don’t think it has been up more than five times. It is properly folded with bath towels protecting the rear window and properly stowed. The tonneau cover is almost new and does not have headrest pockets. He did not like the look of the headrests and decided to take the path of the earlier cars and leave them off for a much smoother line. I do have the original head rests that will go with the car, although they can not be used with the tonneau cover.
Interior;
The interior is completely original, but because this car does not have a great deal of mileage on it he reused the interior. There are no rips or tears in the seats, the door panels are just OK and the carpet could stand to be replaced if you wish to have it immaculate car.
I have several boxes of extra and spare parts that I will be happy to include with the car.
