Description for Mini Classic Mini 1980
I purchased this Mini in December of last year and finally got it imported and registered at the end of February. The Mini was originally a Japanese domestic Mini which was imported to Canada to a dealer which I then imported it from Canada. The Mini has a clean Florida title in hand so you will not have any issues importing and registering the car yourself (not a fun or cheap process). Please make sure you won't have any issues registering this car in your state, his is your responsibility.Onto the Mini itself! This is a 1988 Rover Mini (Badge on the hood says Morris but VIN plate says Rover). Mini is for sure 1988 (also not re-VINed), Bay would not let me list it as a list it as newer than 1980 due to the VIN (SAXXL2S1020469715) not being a US VIN.
Mini is dark blue with a white roof. Paint is in good shape and has a good shine. The left rear quarter panel does have some fogging in the clear coat which may be salvageable but I am unsure. There are a couple small areas around the windows that the sheen has dulled. I replaced the rear window seals as well as trunk lid seal, oth of which leaked water in the rain but no longer do with the fresh seals. Windows were also recently tinted which help in the Florida sun.
The hood has a slight crease just in front of the left hinge. There is a small spot of rust about the size of a quarter (only notable spot of rust on the car) that is right under the center of the windshield. Roof has a small dent on the left rear corner. (All noted spots are pictured). Overall the body on this Mini is in great shape, ery minimal rust, loors are solid, nd undercarriage in solid as pictured.
Wide fender flares were added (narrower fender flares also come with the car). The wide flares match up really well with the 10" Valtain wheels. I replaced the tires in March with a set of Yokohama Advan HF A-008 in a 165/70-10. Tires grip amazingly well in the dry or wet. The tire and wheel set up ride really well on the mini.
Mini has the carbureted 998cc engine with 4-speed manual transmission. Transmission shifts smoothly and engages well. Mini has a heavy duty engine guard mounted under the motor. Engine has an oil leak which looks like is around the shifter rod and/or output drive shafts, nd it does rarely have a bit of smoke on start-up, hich smells like fuel. Over about 4.5 months engine consumed/leaked approx half a quart of oil. Also has an upgraded aluminum radiator with auxiliary electric fan on a switch on the dash. A rare item is this car has a functioning A/C that blows nice and cold. A/C was not functioning when I got the car but I was able to repair and get recharged and it has been holding strong for a couple months now.
Currently the odometer shows 16,700 km (will go up as I drive it almost daily). Odometer is only 5 digits and I know it has rolled over 100,000 km so car should have 119,500 km (74,250 miles). The speedo displays in kilometers. The fuel gauge only shows just over half a tank when the tank is full, he float in the tank probably needs to be replaced to show correctly but I just keep track of the kilometers and fill up regularly. Mini also has a temp gauge and oil pressure gauge.
The interior is in good shape as well, an seats and side panels. The front seats have some split seams on the bottom cushion that need to be repaired. Wood dash board was covered really nicely with black vinyl with the standard gray lower dash. Headliner is a light gray that is also in really good condition. The head unit is still the Japanese specific unit that only has Japanese radio frequencies (76.0-90.0) so you can get a hand full of stations but not much. CD player works as well as the aux input that I use with my iPod. There are two Alpine speakers in the rear deck that are decent, ut I would upgrade if I keep the car.
Buyer is responsible for transportation of the Mini. Buyer must make a $200 non refundable deposit within 3 business days and the remainder of the funds by wire within 10 business days. I have the car listed locally and reserve the right to cancel the auction at any time.
