Description for Nash LaFayette 1937
Up for auction is a very stylish 1937 Nash Lafayette 4 door Humpback sedan. I drove this car quite a bit when I first bought it about 20 years ago. It was a nice running car with Nash's free wheeling. I drove it until I couldn't take the green color any longer and took it apart for a burgundy paint job. When I purchased it, it needed what it needs now, the side and front windshield glass and interior work. The seats are intact but rough, the headliner is mostly gone and the side door panels are either rough or missing. I bought old stock seat covers for the car and was just going to pad them up a bit and put these aftermarket covers on the seats. The floor mats are still intact as are all gauges, etc in the dash. The car was never rusted and spent about 40 years sitting in the front window showroom of the old Buick garage in our town. The only rust is a small strip where the driver gets in under the mat (see picture). The outside was painted with urethane paint and probably would clay bar or finish sand and buff for a driver. There are some chips, bruises and scratches from all the sitting but its actually still pretty presentable. All exterior bolted on panels are just setting on the car with a few bolts and would need to be bolted up tight, windows put in etc. The running boards are very solid but the rubber covers are mostly gone. The bumpers were rechromed. The trim, wind lace, lights, etc are about 98% there in additional boxes. I even have a couple of wrenches with the Nash logo on them. The tires hold air for moving around. I have not tried to start it for years as the gas tank is out. The tank is clean. The motor turns over freely. The clutch works nice and the brakes would have to be gone through. The radiator is good and I found a newer original die cast grill years ago. This is a very attractive body and got a lot of comments years ago when I drove it. It could be put back as an original driver or street rodded. Its not something that you would see all the time. Look at the pictures and call for any additional information. Tom 815-238-3516
