Description for Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1961
Here is my 1961 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Sport Coupe. The car is primarily unrestored with 40,200 miles. The paint appears to be about 80% original, the chrome and interior appear to be all original, down to the half rubber mat/half carpet that came from the factory in a Dynamic 88. the car throws off a striking appearance and looks really good. I have my number listed below, you can feel free to call after reading this description. It is equipped with a 394 V8, "Slim Jim" "Rotomatic" Hydramatic transmission, 2 barrel carb, power steering, power brakes, optional spinner hubcaps, pushbutton radio and an aftermarket reverb unit that works nicely.
I have LOTS of original paperwork for the car. It includes the original Protect-O--Plate showing Ms. Annie Morrell in Rockville, Connecticut purchasing the car in 1961. I have many old bills and registration receipts showing mileage. in 1980 it shows 30,855 miles, and I have a copy of the ownership change in 1981 when it was sold to the second owner also in Connecticut. He owned the car until at least 1999 according the the registration receipts. The mileage is shown at 36,000 in 1994. So the story is well documented from new until 1999.
I purchased the car about two and a half years ago and added a new set of 4 wide whitewall tires and spinner hubcaps. I also added the reverb unit. I had it gone through and it works nicely with that echo chamber sound.
The car runs and drives very nicely, stops right, starts easily, idles smoothly, and everything works with the exception of the wipers. All else seems to work very well.
The paint as mentioned is original for the most part. It appears to have had some paintwork on the quarters, mostly molding down. There is a light crease on the passenger's side that is not noticeable but its there. I took all of the side moldings off and had them professionally polished and straightened. Overall the paint shines really nicely and most people cannot believe its mostly original. The car is super solid underneath with no evidence of rust repair. The body is in great shape.
The interior is outstanding. Top to bottom. The half rubber mat/half carpet that came in Dynamic 88's is in amazing original condition. The seats must have been under plastic as they look excellent, as do the door panels. I had the package tray dyed as it had some sun fading. The interior is really, really nice. The original chrome is good, the front bumper is very nice, the rear one has a little light pitting but nothing that I think anyone would do anything about. Engine compartment has had a little light detailing but is primarily unrestored. the original trunk paint and material lines the trunk and it has what I believe is an original spare tire.
This is a really nice car and a very hard to find body style. I am a long time collector of unrestored cars, and this is a nice one. I am paring down my car collection.
