Description for Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1961
This is a very nice, well preserved 1961 Olds 88 bubbletop. I believe you'd have to look for a long time to find an original example better than this one.The car is quite well documented with the original Protect-O-Plate warranty book showing the purchase by the original owner in Connecticut in September of '61. The original owner kept the car until 1981, and it was sold to a second owner in Connecticut in the same town. He kept it until 1999. There are receipts along the way showing mileage, and one in 1980 just before the original owner sold it, it shows 30,855 miles. I purchased the car in 2016 with 39,498 miles. The car is wearing what appears to be about 70% original paint. There has been some paintwork blown in on the sides of the car on some (but not all) panels, but the paint on the top surfaces appears to be original. The car is very solid. The interior is simply outstanding and must have been under plastic seatcovers. They are so bright and looks so fresh. The original half carpet/half mat that 88's had is still there and in good shape. The original chrome is very good. The back bumper has some pitting, although not bad enough that anything really needs to be done about it.When I bought the car I spent about $5000 on it by adding 4 new 8.00x14 correct tires, new wheel cylinders, brake hoses, master cylinder, carb rebuild, new fuel pump, flushed the radiator as well as some other details. I also added the correct optional spinner hubcaps which were correctly painted to match the green paint. This car is nice. Its primarily original, so it has some bumps and bruises on the body here and there, but it throws off a great appearance and drives very well. it runs, starts, stops like it should, and everything works with the exception of the wipers and the clock. The car is equipped with a 394 V8, Automatic Trans, power steering, power brakes, padded dash, pushbutton radio with an aftermarket reverb unit that I installed which works great.I have been a long time collector of nice original cars. Please call and feel free to ask me questions 201-406-4423. I encourage you to come physically inspect the vehicle in person and will accommodate such inspection as best as I can. The car is being offered on an as is where is basis with no warranties nor guarantees express, written or implied. Buyer is responsible for any shipping costs and a $1000 deposit is required via Paypal within 24 hours after the end of the auction. Thanks for looking.
