The '59 Bel Air is always a car that stands out in a crowd. Whether it's a factory-correct car or wild custom, hose big tail fins, he bulging roof line, nd long wheelbase are always good for catching eyes and turning heads. So it's no surprise that when the previous owner of this 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air spotted this amazing machine on a leg of the 2013 Hot Rod Power Tour in Texas, e knew he HAD to have it. So he tracked it down, ontacted the owner and before he knew it he was signing the paperwork on an incredibly custom and well-built '59 Bel Air. Fortunately, ou don't have to go through all that legwork. With a massive 572 cubic inch motor and compelling House of Kolor paint job, his Chevy is simply waiting for you to pick up the phone and lock in a deposit!
BODYWORK/TRIM
That eye-popping paint job is the first thing that stands out about this car; and rightfully so. Finished in a glossy coat of House of Kolor Sterling Gray Metallic over Sunset Orange, t's a two-tone color combination that has just enough flash to catch attention, ut not so much that it's obnoxious. Sprayed over smooth sheetmetal, onfirming absolutely no shortcuts were taken during body prep, hose two hues are split by clean, tainless trim spanning the length of the car and trimming the tail fins. All of the chrome and remaining stainless have been body-matched in the same Sterling Gray Metallic paint, ncluding the front and rear bumpers, ront grille and headlight/taillight bezels. And custom door handles, mirrored "572" badge and a custom steel hood provide aggressive attitude to match the car's big block power!
ENGINE
Under the custom steel hood is a GMPP ZZ572 cubic inch V8, radled in a custom and well-sorted engine bay and detailed in more HoK Sunset Orange. Rated at 620 horsepower, hevrolet claims this monster motor "the most powerful big block street engine". Fed by a custom induction system that pipes air from behind the grille, he Pro Systems carburetor feeds air and fuel into big-bore cylinders where an HEI distributor sends fire to ignite the mixture with 9.6:1 compression - allowing this big block safe to run on pump fuel. Mounted to a billet Vintage Air serpentine system is a polished A/C compressor, polished alternator and a power steering pump. Polished pulleys spin the aluminum water pump and underdrive balancer. Keeping temps in check is a Griffin cross-flow radiator that's fitted with dual electric fans and a polished overflow tank. That big block breathes through Hooker competition headers to a 3'' H-pipe exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and electronic exhaust cut-outs.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
During the frame-off build, Sunset Orange painted Art Morrison chassis was fabricated to cradle a TH400 transmission built by Hughes Performance and is supported by a custom coilover suspension. That transmission utilizes a Gear Vendors under/overdrive and sends power to a Ford 9'', tuffed with a Strange Engineering locker differential and 3.73 gears. The adjustable coil over suspension is supplemented with a 4-link rear setup and a rear sway bar, ith upper/lower tubular control arms up front. Four-wheel, illwood disc brakes with 13'' cross-drilled/slotted rotors, piston calipers up front and 4 piston calipers at the rear handle stopping duties. And power steering turns the 19'' Budnik Ice wheels up front, hat are wrapped in 235/35R19 BF Goodrich tires, hile the massive 20x14 wheels out back put the power to the ground through Mickey Thompson Sportsman 29x15's.
