Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1981
This 1981 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am is the final year edition of a two year model run (1980-81) for this unique American performance car. It was Pontiac's first turbocharged production car and also brought down the curtain on a storied era of distinctive Pontiac engines. The turbocharged 301 went into production for the 1980 model year replacing the Pontiac 400. The turbo package (listed on the order form as RPO LU8) was offered only with an automatic transmission and a 3.08 axle and cost $437.00 on the 1981 model. The turbocharged engine met federal emission standards, but wasn't available in California, although some were assembled there as was this vehicle in Van Nuys, California. Pontiac claimed the 301 turbo engine produced 210 net horsepower and 345 foot pounds of torque. This Trans Am model provides fine performance for a reasonable price and is a classic automotive design first introducedin 1970. It is an agile vehicle with less weight on the nose due to the smaller turbocharged engine and the optional four wheel disc brakes provide excellent stopping power. The trailing edge of the Trans Am Turbo hood bulge contains a "turbo boost indicator" of three lights that illuminate in sequence as the boost pressure rises. I have augmented this feature with an actual and more accurate boost gauge adjacent to the center console. Notably, the 1981 Pontiac Trans Am Turbo was the scion of a proud lineageand the last realPontiac V8 engineexclusive to the Pontiac Motor Division.
This classic automobile includes as options: the unique Firebird hood decal, body side moldings, a 4bbl turbo 301 V8 engine with boost gauges, computer command control, air injection, 3 speed automatic transmission, air conditioning, cruise control, rally gauges, tinted windows, door edge guards, dome reading lamp and interior lamp group, power electric antenna, power door locks, WS6 special performance package, tilt steering wheel, pulse window wipers, engine block heater, custom trim group (seats, door handles, seat belts, etc.). The original window sticker for this vehicle is included with this sale and identifies in even greater detail the aforementioned vehicle accessories.
This car has spent the predominant portion of its 35 year life cycle in the desert Southwest in either Kingman, Arizona or Henderson, Nevada.
It's a sales tax freepurchasefor all Nevada residents and for those out ofstate it provides an excellent mini-vacation opportunity by flying one way in to Las Vegas and driving home in a classic American performance car. You won't be disappointed!
