Description for Pontiac Firebird 1976
I bought this 1976 Firebird two years ago with the intent to drive it to work every day during the summer. Three months after I bought it, my wife and I adopted our first child. I have only been able to use it sparingly over the last two years. It's time to pass it along to someone who can enjoy it more than I have been able to enjoy it.The car runs, drives and stops very well. The clutch is good, the four speed shifts very well and the suspension and steering are nice and tight. It's a blast to drive! It has the original numbers matching 400 engine and a 4 speed that I believe to be original to the car. A previous owner installed an Offenhauser manifold, a 700 cfm Holley double pumper (List #4778), a Crower street beast hydraulic cam and a purple horny muffler. The previous owner included the original manifold and carb. These will both be included in this sale. The car was originally green with a tan interior. When I bought it, someone had dyed the dash black and installed new front black seats and a black console. I purchased and installed a new black headliner, new weatherstripping, new black carpet, nice used black rear seats and plastic panels. The door panels were dyed black.
The car is definitely a number 4 car. The paint, while shiny and nice in the pictures, needs some help. If you wanted a nice show car caliber Formula 400, you'd need a new paint job for sure. The only areas on the body that I can see need attention before the paint job are in the lower rear corners of the doors where there is some bubbling and a very shallow dent on the drivers side quarter panel. The rest of the body seems solid and straight. There are some amateur looking patches welded into the floor and into the trunk (see the pictures). There also seems to have been a patch welded into the drivers side rear frame. The frame patch seems to have been done pretty well since I didn't even notice it until this summer. The second to last picture in the group is my best attempt at photographing the patch. I do not see any other patches or rustout in the frame. The only issues I have had with the car are that it has a small oil leak and not all of the dash lights work. Hagerty's valuation site pegs the value of this car in number 4 condition at $7,500. Here is your chance to own it for significantly less.
