Description for Pontiac Firebird 1976
1976 PONTIAC FIREBIRD FORMULA 400 This is a very rare Firebird Formula: · Numbers matching engine block · One year only hood · One year only Endura bumper · One year only paint color · Last round headlight model year · PHS documentation · Purchase agreement and full service history from original owner. He purchased it new in Fort Worth. TX ENGINE VIN numbers matching original block. Had been rebuilt to stock specifications including 7. 9:1 compression ratio. Installed rebuilt 6x-4 cylinder heads replacing the 6x-8 heads raising compression to 1978 specs. Replaced camshaft with Crower 60240 - about a Ram Air II spec for better performance without sacrificing idle quality. Replaced stock EGR intake manifold with a 1972 intake – this eliminates the EGR valve while retaining the same carb/choke feature. Original intake manifold with EGR available. TRANSMISSION Stock Turbo Hydramatic. Previous owner had rebuilt with a shift kit that provides a firm. but not too hard shift. REAR AXLE Stock Pontiac posi-traction differential. Swapped out stock 2. 76 gear ratio to a 3. 08. Speedometer is very accurate. SUSPENSION/BRAKES Stock factory set-up. All suspension bushings. body mounts. ball joints. springs and brake system overhauled by previous owner. Receipts available. TIRES/WHEELS P225/70R-15 BF Goodrich Radial TA tires. 90% tread remaining on all four. Factory 15x7 Honeycomb wheels that are not bent in the center cap area (typical for these wheels). Trim rings are not dented. All center caps are there. Original equipment TPC FR78-15 spare tire. EXHAUST True dual exhaust. Stock factory exhaust manifolds with seam welded mufflers. Mellow sound … louder than stock. but not too loud. Original chrome tailpipe tips. No catalytic converters … registered as an antique in Texas … no inspection required. BODY Solid. solid. solid. No rust anywhere – never had any. Removed fuel tank and replaced fuel sending unit. Removing rustproofing from the tank while it was off and the tank looks almost like new with no rust. Have rustproof receipt from original owner. Never had an accident – has a noticeable dent on top of the driver side fender. Has had one very high quality paint job. Rocker/door jambs and trunk area are original paint and matches the exterior paint perfectly. These cars are known to rust badly in the lower quarter panel area. This one is perfect. Has the factory rear spoiler option. Usual paint cracks in the Endura bumpers. INTERIOR Original materials. White seats. door panels and rear quarter panels. One small blemish (B-B size) on the driver lower seat cushion. One small ½” crack on the dash. The carpet is original and perfect. Original working AM/FM radio. Clock does not work (typical). temperature gauge is inaccurate. but everything else works great. Original trunk mat and hood insulation pad. This car has been garaged its entire life except for one year. Original owner had the car from 1976-1995. The second owner had it for only one year … did nothing to it. Third owner had it painted. engine/trans work. suspension/brakes from 1996-1999. I have owned it since 2000. The exterior lamp lenses are original. clear and shiny supporting indoor storage. I drove this car from Dallas to Biloxi. MS for the 2013 Cruisin’ the Coast event. Except for a replacement alternator it performed flawlessly. I’d drive this car anywhere. The air conditioning was converted to 134a including a new VIR (valves in receiver) assembly. The car took second place in the 2007 Pontiac Oakland Club International annual show and appeared in two Pontiac magazines from the show. Offered in a basic reserve auction. No “$500 immediate deposit required” clause. I don’t buy cars that way and won’t ask anyone else to do that. Ask all the questions you want (except the reserve). Ask for additional pictures. Just bid with an intent to purchase. I will not arrange shipping. but will work with your choice of transport.
