Description for Pontiac Bonneville 1965
There is a certain type of classic car collector that will only entertain owning the best of the best - cars that are 100% perfect in every way, not just in overall appearance, but vehicles that are 100% numbers matching and fully documented. This type of person is not interested in the plethora of middle of the road collector cars out there, but only the most sublime examples on the planet. This amazing classic car is for this type of... collector. ‘Red Hills Rods & Classics’ is extremely proud to offer you this incomparable 1965 Pontiac Bonneville 421 Tri-Power Sport Coupe. For 1965, all GM B-body cars were dramatically restyled w/ swooping rooflines, rakish fender lines, and the beautiful ‘Coke bottle’ profile, which contributed to making it one of the most popular body styles that Pontiac ever produced. Recently acquired from the 2nd owner who purchased the car from the original owner in 1976, this stellar ’65 Bonneville Sport Coupe underwent a 5-year no-expense spared nut & bolt rotisserie restoration that is simply second to none. The car was in amazing condition before the restoration, which made the overall work so much more pleasant. All of the sheet metal is 100% factory original front to back w/ absolutely no patch panel work of any kind, and the entire driveline is 100% numbers matching & original to the car. 90% of the parts that were used are original ‘born with’ components that were restored to ‘as new’ condition, while the remaining parts used were all N.O.S. throughout. Color, trim, and all factory options match the PHS documentation perfectly, w/ no options added or deleted. She is just as she left the Pontiac, Michigan factory. The body-work is absolutely as good as it gets, with laser straight sheet metal all of the way around the car. There are no wrinkles, no waves, and absolutely no scratches or blemishes of any kind to be found. The factory original (Code T) Capri Gold paint is simply flawless and changes from light gold, to pewter, to silver, depending on the lighting. This particular color truly has to be seen in person to appreciate how gorgeous it is. All of the mirror-like chrome and shiny stainless trim is in show-quality condition throughout, and the glass is all brand new and absolutely flawless. Yes, I will be using the word ‘flawless’ quite a bit while describing this amazing classic car because there really is no better word than I can come up with. The undercarriage has been restored to ‘factory new’ specifications and is simply as nice as the topside of the car. During the last 20 years of dealing in high-end vintage American cars, I have never seen a full-size classic restored to such a degree, period. Please look closely at the undercarriage/chassis images to see how beautifully detailed everything is. She sits on the original 14” 8-lug wheels (my favorite factory wheels) wrapped w/ classic 1” white-wall radial tires (P225/75/R14). The decision was made to put radial tires on the car, as the original Polyglas tires would detract from how perfectly the car drives. You can walk around this Bonneville a hundred times and never find a single flaw or blemish, front to back, top to bottom. When you open the driver’s door and slide inside the absolutely perfect factory correct (Code 253) light gold interior, you will swear that you are sitting in your local Pontiac dealer’s showroom and it’s 1965 all over again! All new upholstery & instrumentation was introduced in 1965 as well, and it is one of the most elegant interiors that ever left the Pontiac factory. The light gold seats, carpeting, door panels, dashboard, acrylic steering wheel, headliner, door sills, etc. are simply flawless in every way. The walnut dash insert is perfect w/ beautiful coloring, and the extensive chrome trim is bright & shiny like new. All of the factory original gauges & electrical components are in perfect working order throughout. All of the lighting, including glove box bulb, etc. light up as new, and the factory original AM/FM radio w/ reverb unit sounds great. Even the ashtrays are spotless! Simply stated: this is one of the most beautiful interiors that I have ever seen in a classic car! The trunk area is also pristine and factory correct throughout including: retractable trunk light, spare tire & jack assembly. Now, let’s get to the good stuff, shall we? Pop open the hood, and nestled inside the beautifully detailed engine bay you will find the original numbers matching 421ci/356hp Tri-Power motor dressed in original Pontiac blue w/ original chrome valve covers, topped w/ (3) Rochester 2V carburetors. Of course, the engine stamp matches the factory original Protecto-Plate. I also want to add that not just the block is original, but all of the engine components such as heads, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, (3) Rochester 2V carbs, etc. are original to the car. The 421ci Tri-Power motor is linked to the original numbers matching Turbo-Hydramatic 400 transmission (first year for the TH400), and the numbers on the transmission tag also match the original Protecto-Plate. The photos will show that the original dual-snorkel air cleaner is present, as well as the individual chrome Tri-Power air cleaner set. She fires up instantly w/ the flick of the wrist, as the choke keeps the idle @ 1500rpm until it warms up for a minute or so, then a small tap on the accelerator drops the idle down to around 800rpm. She runs & drives beautifully in every way like a brand new car, and sounds spectacular w/ that deep throaty rumble. The 421ci Tri-Power motor has loads of power & torque and the (3) Rochester 2V carbs are tuned to perfection. I have always had a love affair w/ full-size American muscle cars and that is exactly what this ’65 Bonneville is all about. The ride is amazingly solid w/ no rattles, no squeaks, or unwanted noises whatsoever. Again, it feels like you are driving a brand new 1965 Pontiac Bonneville fresh off of the showroom floor! Of course, original documentation is extremely important w/ any collector car, and this Bonneville has that area covered in spades. Original documentation includes: original warranty booklet w/ original Protecto-Plate, original owner’s manual, original AM/FM radio manual, original tire warranty card, original battery warranty booklet, original 1965 Pontiac chassis manual, original 1965 Pontiac accessories brochure, original 1965 Pontiac dealer brochure, original 1965 Pontiac paint chart, original 1965 Pontiac interior chart, original 1965 Bonneville magazine ads, full PHS documentation including punch card, hundreds of restoration photos, and much more! After completing the 5-year comprehensive rotisserie restoration, the car was shown @ the 2017 Pontiac Nationals where it scored 398 out of 400. Everyone who laid eyes on the car mentioned that it was the finest example that they had ever seen in their lives. Whether you are an avid Poncho fanatic, or simply a lover of that very small percentage of flawlessly restored full-size classic muscle cars, you will never find a finer example than this 1965 Pontiac Bonneville 421 Tri-Power Sport Coupe. This rare investment-grade classic car will only appreciate in value as the years go by, and will make the perfect centerpiece to any high-end collection.
