Description for Pontiac Firebird 1981
There's no doubt that the color combination totally makes this 1981 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am extra special, but it's also an absolute blast to drive. Built a mere 782 miles ago, this cool cat is just getting started, and as everyone's favorite F-body, the Firebird T/A is definitely back in fashion and looking better than ever. I'm afraid that no 1981 Trans Am, complete with chicken, can be subtle, but why would you want it to be?... It's in-your-face aggressive even though it's not over-wrought with contrasting colors, and this one is ready to rock. All the usual Trans Am styling cues are there, from the deep front air dam to the hood scoop to the blacked-out taillights, and all of it is familiar and starting to look better with each passing year. The paint cleans up well and has a great shine, and all those perfect decals really pop nicely up against the black backdrop. Unlike most of these T/As of the era, the urethane nose looks nice with no cracks or impact damage and the few bright pieces of trim are in good shape as well. All-in-all, this is a high driver-grade Trans Am that has the look but not the big price tag. The tan interior is in excellent restored condition and it really looks contemporary today. Vinyl buckets are all-day comfortable, perfect for the kind of driving you're likely to do in this Trans Am, and they're in excellent shape with their quilted patterns. Matching plush carpets and slick door panels are likewise beautifully presented, and the middle console is upholstered in matching tan material, along with a quilted panel lid for the center compartment. The engine-turned dash bezel was always one of Pontiac's coolest features, and all the gauges are inside have been replaced with new digital units, although the stock pieces come with the sale should one want to switch back. Options include a 3-spoke wood-rimmed steering wheel that sits on a tilt column, a CB radio, a modern Sony AM/FM/AUX/Bluetooth head unit that controls a kickin' stereo, and probably most important of all, an R134a A/C system. T-tops are part of the package too, and there's nothing better than open-air cruising on a beautiful day. The trunk is nicely finished with factory mats and a spare, along with a boxed JL Audio subwoofer. Pontiac's 400 cubic inch V8 was an admirable performer in 1981, delivering that muscle car feel that somehow survived the smog control era. The engine bay is largely stock, with Pontiac Turquoise paint still adorning the engine and valve covers and that big Shaker air cleaner dominating the whole scene. Regular maintenance means it fires up easily and runs great and nobody will ever complain about the soundtrack from the fresh dual exhaust system with Flowmaster-style mufflers and electric cutouts. It's backed by a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission feeding the original 10-bolt rear end and wow, did you notice how solid the floors look? Factory "snowflake" aluminum wheels were desirable equipment on the Trans Am and they are wrapped in 245/60/15 white-letter BFGoodrich radials for the perfect look. Cars like this in top condition are pulling some pretty spectacular prices, so this is your opportunity to get an ultra-clean driver-quality car for a fraction of the price. Offered with restoration photos and build receipts, this is a dialed-in T/A that won't last long. Call today!
