Description for Pontiac Trans Am 1980

Excellent, Totally Original, Numbers Matching, BLACK TURBO TRANS AM SPECIAL EDITION with T-TOPS. 1 OF 3,444 made for 1980. The same model as in Smokey and the Bandit II. Runs perfectly, plenty of power. Kept away from rain, snow, winters, meticulously maintained, same owner for the past 37 years. Always garaged, never abused.
Solid rust free car from top to bottom. Received one repaint 30 years ago with Genuine GM Decals applied, not reproductions. Paint and decals still look like new, since the car is always garaged. T-top seals were also replaced with Genuine GM rubber, not reproductions.
Original GM Garrett-Airesearch Turbocharger was rebuilt 12,000 miles ago and fitted with a water-cooled center section for ultra-long bearing life, it should never need to be done again.
A new, Original Equipment, GM Rochester Carburetor was also installed at the same time, 12,000 miles ago. This is the exact, turbo-specific, 800 CFM carburetor for this 1980 model. It powers this vehicle perfectly.
Original transmission was rebuilt and reinstalled 2,000 miles ago with a new, Original Equipment torque converter. It also, should never need to be done again.
New Firestone LE3 performance radial tires all around, newer battery, and over the years, brakes, master cylinder, water pump, alternator, ignition wires and spark plugs have all been replaced. Nothing to do but drive and enjoy.
Engine is very smooth and powerful with only 77,289 Original Miles, oil faithfully changed every 1,000 miles, and doesn't leak or burn a drop of oil. This car has been babied all it's life.
Still has the original, working GM Delco AM/FM Cassette Stereo radio.
Equipped with GM's WS-6 Performance Handling Package, which includes a Positraction 3.08:1 rear axle, 4 Wheel Disc Brakes and 15"x 8" Aluminum Turbo Wheels.
Seats are clean, and a little brighter than in some of the darker photos. If you look through the interior photos, you will see some of them are not so dark.
Original Build Sheet comes with the vehicle.
Original GM Fisher T-Top storage covers also come with the vehicle. This car has it all.
A water/alcohol-injection system was added in the 1980's (a common way to improve performance on turbocharged vehicles) and is trouble-free, and allows for additional turbo-boost if desired. An electronic adjustable boost system is also added, but can be left at the factory 9 psi setting when not needed, still allowing the benefits of the water-injection at higher boost levels, it is set to only activate above 5 psi boost. This keeps the combustion chambers cleaner, and cooler, making more power, even without increasing the factory boost setting. This type of system was used on the original GM prototypes for the Turbo Trans Am, but never made it to production. This car is truly amazing. It feels like you're driving a big block, but it's a fuel efficient 4.9 liter Turbo V8. These components make a very favorable addition to this beautiful car, but are quickly and easily removable if desired.
A turbo boost gauge has also been added, to the right of the factory gauges, but blends in so well that it looks like it has always belonged there. In a way, it has always belonged there, all turbocharged vehicles deserve a boost gauge.
