Description for Porsche 928 1986

Summary

I've been watching eBay for auctions of manual transmission 928s for years. This will be one of the most mechanically solid and sorted out cars I've seen here. Some similar cars have recentlybeenre-listed a few times without selling; this will be a true no-reserve auction. It will sell to the high bidder.

This 928 is a rare 5 speed manual model, ith optional limited slip differential. 5 liter, 2V, ll aluminum V8. Meteor Metallic over brown full-leather interior. This is a so-called '86.0 928, ut it has had all the '86.5 'mid year'upgrades performed.
Many, any upgrades including X-pipe exhaust, 7" Cup I wheels, -piston Brembo 928 S4 brakes, orKen belt tensioner, orque rings, performance chips, tc. New timing belt just installed. This car is fast, orquey, nd smooth; it sounds fantastic and is really fun to drive. A manual transmission 928 with LSD is truly nirvana to drive.
It fires up on the first turn of the key and will be a great daily driver with just routine maintenance for years to come. Updated x-pipe exhaust provides more HP and a great sound. Recent intake refresh with no expense spared. Compression and leakdown are excellent.
Body has the scuffs/dings/scrapes consistent with a 30 year old car, ut the paint looks good. Interior has a split driver side seat bolster, racks in the instrument cluster, nd curling of the dash heater vent area. Overall, ar presents quite nicely and gets lots of compliments when I daily drive it. The climate control system is fully functional, ut the AC needs a charge every spring.
Lots of additional info if you are 928 savvy or just want all the gory details:
This is an '86.0 VIN; however, did a complete suspension/brake system swap from an '86.5 automatic transmission donor car (which is available as well - just ask).
Before doing the intake refresh, ran compression and leakdown tests; everything came back highly consistent across all 8 cylinders with great results. When doing the intake refresh, had all the hard parts (intake runners, lenums, ater bridge, alve covers, tc.) powder coated in silver. All hardware and brackets were correctly re-plated in yellow cadmium.
Upgrades include:
-X-pipe w/new Bosch 02 sensor installed
-Euro-spec Bosch H4 headlights (8", nobtainium, n near-new condition)
-PorKensioner timing belt tensioner (maintenance free tensioner)
-PorKen chips and torque rings
-Late-style Porsche fuel pressure regulator
-17"Cup 1 wheels (Italian replicas) installed
-New front spoiler (original Porsche) and hardware kit
-Complete late S3/S4 suspension, ncluding 4-piston aluminum calipers (and entire late S3/S4 braking system), br>
The entire drive train has been sorted out, rom intake to axles and exhaust:
-exhaustive intake refresh, ncluding sensors, alve cover sealing bits, nd other 'while you're in there parts'...over $1,000 in parts here alone
-rebuilt the throttle body, ncluding the correct sealed ball bearings on the shaft - no more 'whistling' intake sounds
-all fuel and vacuum lines replaced — no hunting idle, o ‘off' odors (yes, also did all the lines in the passenger front fender well - no gassy smells anywhere)
-new ignition wires, lugs, istributor caps and rotors
-rebuilt torque tube with Konstantin's Super Bearings - this dramatically improved smoothness of the car and reduced NVH
-replaced all bushings in shift linkage, lus clutch throw-out arm bushing, ncluding 928 Motorsports front pivot ball — shift action is superb
-resealed transmission and filled with Redline MTL (including 2 quarts with LSD additive) - tranny is dry and in wonderful condition
-swapped in complete front and rear '86.5 suspension and brakes, ncluding ABS pump, acuum assist module, roportioning valve, ensors, nd brain (ABS is functional, ut currently throwing a code due to mismatch between front/rear wheel speed — may be due to the wheel/tire package I put in). Also installed brand new S4 master cylinder from Ate, nd a new clutch slave cylinder.
-water pump/timing belt replaced at 68K/3 years ago, nd yet another timing belt was just done in the last 350 miles.
-replaced failing exhaust hangers with new pieces
-replaced all vacuum diaphragms (except defrost, hich is working fine) and vacuum lines behind dash for HVAC system. Re-sealed recirculation box and blower housing. Tested all vacuum solenoids (all good); climate control is now working great (and quietly — no hissing/clunking from failed vacuum components)
-new front wheel bearings
-injectors cleaned and flow-tested by Witch Hunter
-new window regulator switches
-rebuilt oil cooler lines
-re-booted CV joints (all)
-new hood struts and hood release cable parts
-Fixed the rear brackets on the center console - all dash parts are solidly/correctly mounted
-New ball bearings on the radiator fan shaft - engine sounds like a sewing machine
-All power steering lines rebuilt/replaced
-Lots of documentation comes with the car. The major projects were documented at Pelican - search for threads started in the 928 forum there under my moniker, dtw'.
The bad:
-Dash warning light for the brake lights is on, ven though all the lights, ncluding the brake lights, ork just fine.
-Cruise control is inop, ut appears to be related to the above — cruise does not function if the bulb control module is throwing a code
-Central locking/alarm, indshield washer jets are inop
-AC blows cold, ut needs a recharge every spring. Mechanic says the system looks fine, ut the compressor may be due for a re-seal.
-Rear tires are ready for replacement (not corded, ut down to wear bars)
