Description for Shelby Mustang GT 350 1965

Offered here is our 1965 Mustang GT 350 REPLICA. Just like genuine '65 GT 350's, this car is no boulevard cruiser. It was professionally built over a period of 30 years and set up for hot street use and track days. Everyone thinks it's real. The objective of this build was to look, run and drive like a 1965 Shelby Mustang GT 350/GT 350R, and with brake, suspension and engine upgrades, at speed it will likely outperform stock versions of those cars. This car has never been hit and up until lately had been living its life entirely in Southern Cal. It has never been restored, always garaged and that's reflected in its condition inside and out. Body and chassis are exceptionally clean and straight. No panels replaced, body filler or rust anywhere. Gaps and shut lines are near perfect... including the fiberglass hood, which incidentally is a genuine 1965 GT 350 piece. R serial number means San Jose car. Color is correct for 1965 350's as are the painted on rocker and over the top Le Mans stripes. No one remembers the last time the car saw rain, believed to be over 25 years ago. Mileage is actual. Glass and chrome are nice. Paint redone back in late 1990's appears period correct with just the right patina and is way too good to redo. The roll bar and inertia reel shoulder belts integrated into the interior very nicely were sourced from a '67 GT 350 and appear factory installed.

Engine has a big list, all good parts. This is no crate motor. Mexican 302 block bored to 306 cu inches. Program Engineering caps, steel crank and Boss rods with ARP 8740 bolts. Melling blueprinted pump and 10 quart Canton road race pan. Shelby oil filter cooler adapter with 11" by 9" G & J aircraft cooler. All lines Aircraft. Cylinder heads are Ford 351 cast iron reworked by Juan Mendoza at Flow Tech. Valves 202/160 Manley stainless. Comp Billet Roller cam with Comp Roller rockers. Edelbrock aluminum intake, Holley 650 blueprinted double pumper. Ignition is Ford Autolite blueprinted with Pertronix II ignitor and coil. Naturally brass gear and MSD wires cut to fit. Here's the interesting part… built over 15 years ago and freshened it up about 5 years ago. It was perfect then and runs fantastic now. We figure the engine only has about 10,000 miles at most, likely less. When the engine was dynoed back then it was a hair over 350 HP at 6500 on 91 octane pump gas (9.3:1 compression). One other interesting thing about the engine… it was built by Larry Molicone (Auto Dynamics). If you don't know the name, he has been building some of the fastest race engines for over 60 years. He's an old timer now and you can watch him doing engines on The BIG RED Original Outlaw Racer program on TV. This is RJ Gotliebs famous Camaro. The engine was built for extreme dependability. Transmission is a wide ratio toploader with original Ford shifter. The trans was went through when the engine was done. It didn't need anything. At that time the clutch was changed to a McLeod street twin. Two 10 inch disc. Extremely dependable and easy pedal pressure. Rear is 9-inch Ford with 31 spline axles. Brakes are dual circuit Ford 4-wheel disc. The 3:25 gears work great on open tracks with wide ratio trans gears and keep your RPM's down on the freeway. Exhaust is coated Doug headers, a nice 2-1/2” system with X-pipe, glass packs and side exit pipes which '65 GT 350's used. Suspension has all the tricks... Global West Stage 5 on steroids. Koni Shocks all 4 corners. Up until a few years ago, it had run about 2 open tracks and maybe 5 shows a year... lots of trophies. The small detail changes made to this car to make it work better are too numerous to list. This car was set up by serious vintage racers and ALL the race tricks are in this car. The nice part is the soft suspension, so it's great on the street with BFG radial GT's on original Shelby Cragar's. If you want to open track, switch to 600/15 Goodyear Racing Sports Car Specials on seven inch wide Americans (not included) and you will be amazed. This Mustang is an absolute blast on the road and offers a driving experience very unlike that of modern cars. Everyone looking at it think it's real and if they've had a ride, chances are they won't forget it.

Every sports car enthusiast should own a ‘65 GT 350 at some point in their life. Cars that are the result of thirty year builds from committed fastidious owners don't come up for sale often. If you cannot afford a genuine 1965 Mustang GT350 (or choose not to), we challenge you to a nicer, better driving, more accurate replica for sale anywhere and if you do... BUY IT!
