Description for Triumph Other 1966
This amazing survivor will turn heads wherever you go. Triumph is famous in the USA for its amazing sports cars but in the rest of the world, their sports sedans are legend and have a great following. The smooth six cylinder engine powered the GT-6 sports car, and later slightly enlarged, the popular TR250 (TR-5) and TR-6 sports cars. This car was found in sunny southern california where it sold new and came off the road for brake work in 1986 and was stored indoors until two years ago when I found it on a referral from a friend in my Triumph club. It was rust free, accident free, and completely original which was good and bad. I did the brakes, and got the car running but it had sat too long and the bearings quickly went noisy. Emotionally attached I chose to do the engine with a full rebuild kit from Rimmer Brothers in the UK where almost every part is available still and a full catalog of them for these cars. Moss Motors and other Triumph specialists here in the USA also stock most mechanical parts but you won't be needing many when you see what I did; Full engine rebuild, all new cooling system including radiator core, rebuilt carburetors, battery, full three piece clutch, all brake and clutch hydraulics, refinished wheels with new tires. Car ran so sweetly and had never had a paint job so a very high quality job in the original British Racing Green was done with the windshield and rear glass both out and then replaced with new seals. A that time, a Rimmer Brothers headliner kit was fitted, and a Rimmer Brothers full carpet set for the entire car, and the trunk! Ignoring logic I now wanted the car for the western USA Triumph show last September which I was the chairman of. Triumphest was held about 100 miles from my home, in Ventura, CA. The car performed beautifully with only one loose pulley needing fixing, and it took third place in the Autocross event (Saloon/Sedan class)! The car has its original Triumph Radio, and for the show, after the beautiful high grade paint job, I had done all the bumper and bumper guardswith new chrome. This car has a few small needs. The wonderful wood needs refinishing which is a very easy DIY job. The headlight and wiper switches were broken but I sourced a new set which I haven't yet fitted. Horn works; car doesn't dream of overheating, and every ancillary to the new engine has been replaced: water pump, fuel pump, rebuilt distributor, etc.The black plastic of the dashboard needs to be recovered and I have seen these removed and restored successfully with ease. -- I will never, ever get back the funds spent on this car. I had an amazing time in it with all three of my kids at Triumphest and I am really happy to have saved the car. There is a little left to do, but this is a driver and a looker, and whoever buys this car will surely get it at a fraction of what has been spent in the last two years. I will happily answer any questions and also let anyone who knows the cars inspect it for a potential buyer. It will come with a spare set of hoses (already all new), and many other spare parts. Original owners handbook, a workshop manual, and it has all the door and trunk keys that all work! The reserve on this car is just ridiculously low as I have three other Triumphs and six other collector cars and just can not justify keeping this one, as fun and happy a car as it is. The reserve is less than it cost to do the engine forgetting about all the other things listed above. This will be an amazing steal for somebody. Maybe its you. Maybe its time to have a collector car at a crazy low price. Maybe its time for a Triumph! (please feel free to email with questions)
