Description for Triumph TR-6 1972
This stunning TR6 has been professionally restored with no expense spared and has less than 60 testing miles since restoration. The car was an unmolested, never wrecked original that was selected specifically for the purpose of a complete nut and bolt, frame-off restoration. Nothing has been left untouched. A 1972 model year, this TR6 was the last of the desirable bumper model without overriders.
All restoration work was done by reputable and high-quality shops in Illinois and Iowa. The car was completely dismantled, body taken off the frame, and treated to a concourse-quality restoration. The engine was rebuilt to factory specifications with a few tasteful upgrades for the purpose of improved drivability and enhanced motoring experience. The car rides on a set of König rims with brand new Pirelli tires, an equal length tube header has been fitted, as is a Pacesetter Exhaust system with quad exhaust tips, which looks and sounds amazing. The car has an upgraded Petronix Flamethrower ignition coil, improved all-metal powder coated radiator cowl, upgraded tri-bar halogen headlights that illuminate like a modern car, and upgraded fitted under-hood heat insulation. The entire wiring harness is new. The radiator and mounts are new. The suspension components have all been completely rebuilt with new components, new bushings, and sway bars. The brake system is completely new. All brake lines, fuel lines, hoses, water bottle, brake fluid canister, and fittings are new.
The car was treated to a top quality paint job, and a color change to 1972 factory correct Triumph Jasmine Yellow, which shows like a beautiful ivory on the TR6 body style. The decal striping is period correct as offered by Lucas as an option. Underneath, the car is like new and absolutely impressive in terms of fit, finish, and quality of work done. This spectacular car is now a better-than-factory example of the iconic Triumph TR6.
The interior is completely refinished. A new upgraded burlwood dash shows beautifully. Door cards and carpeting is all new, perfectly installed, and gorgeous. The gauges have been sent out for cleaning and refurbishing. All switches, lights, and systems work, including the rheostat to dim or brighten the instrument lighting. The footwell lights work perfectly, both by opening of door and manually with the interior light button on the center console. The heater, defroster, and ventilators work perfectly. The glove box liner is new. Purposely retained for the sake of period ambiance are the original seat covers which are in very good condition. The seats were disassembled and all new padding was installed underneath the original covers. The original steering wheel and original shift knob were also reinstalled. The vintage radio cassette player works and sounds nice through the new speakers installed in the side of the center console. The antenna is new too. The gauges are originals, rather than Chinese copies, and the original mileage on the odometer was kept as well. The doors open and close beautifully with a satisfying thud, windows roll up and down as designed. All rubber seals and weather stripping everywhere has been replaced.
The convertible top has been upgraded from the pebbled vinyl (with awkward reflective strip) to a high-quality Robbins heavy cloth top which looks absolutely wonderful.Â
In keeping with the goal of building a superior driving TR6, Minilite-style Konig wheels shod in Pirelli Cinturato P5's 195/65/15 tires fill out the wheel arches and give the car an aggressive stance. The wheel lips of the König rims have been custom-polished to match the chrome bumpers, door handles, and exhaust tips. A period correct Talbot style chrome bullet mirror is mounted on the driver side door. A battery cut-off switch is installed as well.
Driving this TR6 is an absolute delight. The engine has only about 60 testing miles since its rebuild. The car shows smooth and impressive power delivery, perfect oil pressure, and even engine temperature once up to heat. The engine is a gem. Dry compression test on cold engine shows 135 to 140 across all cylinders. The 2.5 liter straight-6 cylinder revs easily and quickly, and the exhaust sound is simply intoxicating. The engine breathes through two gorgeous chrome air cleaners, showcasing the minty dual Stromberg carburetors and jewel-like throttle linkage.Â
Shifting the car is very satisfying, with a precise and short shift action. The clutch engages smoothly and is equally satisfying to operate as the shifter. The brakes are strong and stop the car positively and straight. Stepping on the brakes without touching the steering wheel stops the car without pulling to either side. The suspension is compliant, yet there is very little body roll.Â
In all, this is one of the best TR6's available. To restore another TR6 to this level of finish would cost well in excess of $60,000. This TR6 is completely finished, without waiting time, and ready to be enjoyed by a new owner. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
