Description for Volkswagen Beetle - Classic 1964
This is an excellent project car loaded with original parts. This car is still an original 6-volt with birth certificate detailing German-built on Leap Day. February 29. 1964. It left the factory March 13. 1964 and was delivered to New York City. After New York. nbsp;the next 20+ years are unknown. Approximately 1985. nbsp;the car was driven to a body repair shop in Phoenix. AZ and abandoned. The repair shop owner obtained the title then parked the car on his property with his large collection of vehicles where it remained until 2009. In 2009 at almost 90 years of age. nbsp;the shop owner decided to close his business and clear his property. Even though the body was in rough shape and every inch needed a thorough cleaning; I purchased the car knowing how rare to find such an intact 50 year old bug. The goal was to restore as a survivor keeping all as original as possible including the 6-volt wiring. nbsp;engine. interior knobs. nbsp;hub caps; and restore back to the original Anthracite gray color. My attempts to restore the car include: the brake solenoids and brake lines changed; re-packed the bearings and brake pads; new rubber on the back and side windows; rebuilt the carburetor and serviced the alternator and ignition switch. A new fuel pump and fuel line was added and old fuel cleared. New 6-volt front lights and turn signal bulbs added and new tires. The original hub caps are not pictured on the car but are stored on the inside floorboard. The seats were re-upholstered leaving the original leatherette Cord Red upholstery and padding underneath. The jack and lug-wrench look original (pictured) and are still attached inside the trunk. The car was running again for a short time then placed back in storage for the past 5 years. There is body damage as pictured. Parts not shown that will be included are two front fenders. hub caps. spare gas cap. wiper blades and a still-in-the box reproduction 6-volt radio that was an option never installed on this car. After a $5500 investment circumstances have forced this sale. There is no reserve price set and the minimum listed is as low as it will go. This is an extremely fair price for one this intact and not cut-up. jacked-up. pieced-together or rusted-out. The new owner will need to trailer this car or arrange pick-up and shipping. The right person should be able to complete the project that I was not able. Check out all of the pictures which include the VIN plate and engine serial number. Please ask questions before bidding.
