I encourage you to read the entire description before bidding and be sure to contact me with any questions. Please bid only if you have the funds to complete the transaction. thank you. Up for auction at no reserve is a 1985 VW Vanagon GL Westfalia Camper model. This Westy is extremely original and complete. including a pile of factory owners manuals and paperwork. The van has been off the road for a while. It currently runs and drive. but will need some engine service. See below for detail on each part of this vehicle. Documentation: This VW has a clear MA title with one registered owner. The carfax shows no accidents or other issues with this van through its history. As you can see in one of the photos. I believe I have all the original owners manuals from volkswagen. including the pamphlets for the propane system. fridge. and stereo etc. Options: This is a factory GL Westfalia. with a manual transmission and air conditioning. The camper interior is intact. and includes all the canvas extras like the skylight screen/shade. the back hatch screen. and the windshield shade. It is very complete and original. in fact the only modification I noted was upgraded kenwood speakers in the rear. Driveline: The van sat for a couple years before I purchased it. I don't know the mechanical history prior to that. The van does run and yard drive. It is not currently registered. however I have driven it around the yard and up & down the street a few times. It idles. had decent power on those short jaunts I did down the street. and the 4-speed goes through all gears as it should. However. the engine will need to be gone through. I noticed some white smoke from the exhaust on a few instances. and have seen on one occasion bubbling in the coolant reservoir. The temperature gauge works intermittently as well. I have not had it professionally diagnosed but according to the research I've done online it could be and bad water jacket gasket and/or a head gasket. Bad valves In the coolant system or air in the coolant lines can contribute to this as well. This is not uncommon with these water-boxer engines and there is a ton of info online about them. Because of this I recommend the winner have the van be towed. and gone through mechanically before driving it any distance. Brakes: The brakes work well on the van. I have replaced a couple of brake lines and bleed the system while I've had it. Frame & Body: The frame and undercarriage of this van are extremely solid. You can see in the photos how clean it is. The body and paint appear to be original. and are in decent condition for their age. The paint shines well. and there are some dings and scratches. the most notable being in the area of their camper plugs on the drivers side (see photo). There is some seam rust starting in some areas. Most are on the surface. with the only perforation occurring on the drivers side lower seam. (again see photos) The rockers and inner fenders are all solid. The front of the van has stone chips. The camper roof is in good shape. but the seal around the edge is dry and should be replaced. I did recently install a new skylight and seal. All the glass is in good shape as well. Interior: Someone took good care of this van over the years. The seats. cushions. upper bed cushion. camper furniture. cabinetry. curtains. and smaller canvas pieces are in great shape. The tables are clean as well. The removable carpet section has some discolorations. and the floor underneath appear to have some sliding tracks so you could add an extension to the floor perhaps? The camper canvas is probably the original. There is a tear by the screen window. and some pinholes and staining on the sides where the top folds tightly when stowed. I have not used any of the camping equipment while had it. but it is all there and comes with the factory manuals. I assume the propane tank is currently empty. New parts recently installed: New pop-top skylight and gasket. some new brake lines. and new battery. Warranty: The van is sold as is. no warranty expressed or implied. Shipping: I can assist with all shipping needs. I can personally ship the car for a fee to CT. RI. MA. NY. NH. VT. NJ. PA. and southern Maine. Beyond that I can provide you with a quote for a third party to deliver to the other states in the continental US. Just contact me with the zip code where the van is to be shipped and I will get back to you with a quote. Summary: This van is for sale at no reserve so it will sell to the highest bidder! Overall this is a solid and very complete VW Wesfalia camper. with clear title and all factory books. It has a clean interior. solid frame. and decent body with some imperfections and rust. It currently runs & drives but will need some engine work. This will make a nice project and a great investment for someone. Please contact me by email or phone at any time with questions. Thanks. 860-377-0700.
