Description for Volkswagen Beetle - Classic 1968
If you're thinking you saw this on here recently, you're correct. I purchased this vehicle a couple of weeks ago, and frankly, I did it on a whim, and don't have the room for another vehicle. I've got one Manx dune buggy, and another one I'm restoring, and with a few other vehicles in the family, we just don't have a need for it.Here is what the previous owner's description was:
This is a nice '68 bug. I have had it for thirteen years and is my daily driver. Daily drive is 50 miles round trip. It has a 1600 engine and a freeway flyer transmission (2 1/2 years old for the transmission). It runs and drives good. The interior is two tone grey and black and it is in good shape. No tears in the headliner.
The only issue is the paint. The paint is faded and cracked in many places. Some areas have been patched. The cracks are due to age.The ignition system is a Pertronix Electronic ignition. No points or condenser.
Here's my additional:
I did a test drive of this bug, and it did fine. The paint is definitely in need of some help. It's solid, with solid floors and heater channels. Tires are in amazing shape, and it runs well after it warms up. Idles low at first, but could just be a carb adjustment. I have the mileage tracking link the previous owner used and it shows him averaging between 27-30 mpg over the last couple of years. It's clearly evident that it is a daily driver.
The engine was replaced in this Beetle a few years ago, and is a strong puller. I drove it about 20 miles, parked it on a level surface, and it only left a couple of drops of oil as it sat overnight, which is far less than most. Seems pretty tight.
The front seats look great, but could use some new padding. I've got a local guy with some near NOS seats I'm trying to get from him, but can't promise I'll be able to. The rest of the interior is in great shape. Newer carpet, seat covers, and headliner. Two tone grey and black. Older restoration, but in very good shape. As the front door panels were recently replaced, and extra set of rear panels are included.
The steering gear box needs adjusting to get the slop out, and I'll get to that, or provide a good used one with the sale of the car if I don't.
I have a stock width adjustable beam that will go with the car for an extra $200, or will include it if the car sells for what my final bid was ($3300). This is the beam only, but it comes with needle bearings already installed, so all you'll need to do is take the parts off the current beam. If you win for this amount, and don't want the beam, I'll take $200 off the final purchase price (but only if it sells for $3300 or above).
Although the muffler has some rust, it's surface rust and is solid. If it bothers you that much, I have an NOS Brazilian muffler from the 80's I'll add in for $50 at the end of the auction.
I encourage you to come take a look, and a test drive, but I would ask that serious bidders only do this, and it will need to be during the week in the late afternoon, or early evening.
Shipping/Delivery is up to you, but I will work with any shippers of your choosing. Car is located in Irmo, SC (zip is 29063). If you're along the route of Irmo, SC to Jacksonville, FL (I-26 to I-95), I can meet you with it along that route, for an additional $100. I will not deviate off that route, or drive more than 5 miles off the interstate. If you're further, you'll have to meet me.
A NON-refundable $300 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction ending. This can be done by PayPal. The final balance is due within 7 days of auction close.
