Description for Volkswagen Bus/Vanagon 1986
Vanagon GL 1986 in excellent condition, up for sale. Some might say that the 86 was the beginning of the best models because of the change to the 2.1 engine which solved many problems from the younger models. It has a 4 speed standard transmission which feels amazing due to recent work (more about it below).
The owners before me were a wonderful older couple that had this camper through most of its lifetime. The wildest adventure they went on was to the nearest lake. It has always been stored inside and there is no rust on it. The interior looks excellent and is all original. Both tables (which is a rare thing), as well as the mirror in the cupboard are in the van. The original bug net and the original front window curtain are there with no holes (very rare). Both stoves work and fire up instantly every time. Sink works perfectly as well.
The A/C is a two separate system, one for the front area and one for the back. The back one was disconnected when I bought it. I had my mechanics check if the back one works, and it does. I decided not to connect it since it is known for not working too well and being an additional strain on the engine. The front system works perfectly.
This car has no leaks, which is a rare thing when it comes to Westfalias this old! I haven’t managed to get the propane setting on the fridge to work. It hasn't been used for years so it might just need a little bit of hard work to get started. Don’t worry, electric parts of the fridge work fine so you can still have some cold drinks in there to crunch your thirst.
The van has a brand new pop-top three window tent. It is made with thicker material to ensure warm nights when it is cold outside. If you are somewhere where it is warm during the night you can open the windows and get an amazing breeze coming through.
Engine was completely rebuilt. All engine parts were replaced as well as the clutch. Around 60,000 miles on rebuilt engine. The car runs very smoothly. Newly installed rebuilt transmission, less than 300 miles on it (paperwork on engine and transmission work is available). Both the engine and the transmission run perfectly, you would never think this is a 30 year old car when you drive it.
New:
Plugs, points and wires in engine
Bearing kits
Tires
Water pump
Breaks and cylinders in back (front ones are still in good shape)
New shocks in back (Bilstein)
Rebuilt transmission
Coolant changed
Oil changed
Distributor cap
New pop-top three window tent. Looks very nice and matches the interior
This van has been treated with care. Water coolant regularly changed as well as oil. It is a pearl because everything is original. No modifications have been made which make it a rare beauty in excellent condition.
I bought it with the intention of doing a road trip around the States. The van has been checked by mechanics and made so that the road trip would be possible without anything going wrong. Unfortunately, school has been taking too much of my time so I decided to postpone the trip until I'm done with my studies. Hopefully it will go to someone who will have more time for it.
If there are any additional pictures you would like to see, don’t hesitate to ask and I will send them to you as soon as I can.

Happy bidding! On Sep-07-16 at 11:23:20 PDT, seller added the following information:
This Westfalia is NOT the syncro version. I was sure I took it out of the item specifics section but unfortunately I didn't. My apologies.
